DRAINAGE SYSTEM :- ( L & T , TN – A105 )

Drainage calculation: The assumed standard rainfall intensity to be used 150mm/hour

Eave Gutter : Since it would not normally cause trouble to have the eave gutter overflow under extreme
conditions. The value of 150mm/hour shall be used unless otherwise specified.

A proper roof drainage system is important part in a building design that can ensure durability of the
roof system of a building by preventing overflowing of water at the sides of the building. The design of
drainage system depends on various factors . building width, rainfall intensity, roof slope.

GUTTER CAPACITY :-

For gutter capacity , a formula derived from the Copper development Association Inc. is used.

Where,

DS = downspourt spacing ( m )

B = width of gutter ( m )

D = depth of gutter ( m )

M = D / B ( depth / width of gutter )

W = width of area being drained ( m )

A = area of downspourt ( cm2 )

I = maximum rainfall intensity ( mm / hr)

C = roof slope constant

= 1.00 for roof slope 0.0 : 10 to 2.0 : 10

= 1.10 for roof slope 2.1 : 10 to 5.4 : 10

= 1.20 for roof slope 5.5 : 10 to 8.20 : 10

= 1.30 for roof slope 8.3 : 10 and higher

DOWNSPOUT CAPACITY :-

Downspout spacing based on downspout capacity is calculated as follows:

THE STANDARD EAVE GUTTER & DOWNSPOUT : -

DETAIL CALCULTION : -

Calculate the gutter & downspourt for given data.

Building width = 96 m ( Frame type BC-3 )

Roof slope 1 : 10

Rain fall details = 150mm/hour

Solution:-

B = 0.172m ( width of valley gutter )

D = 0.171m ( depth of valley gutter )

M = D / B = 0.171 / 0.172 = 0.994

W = 96/ 2 = 48m ( width of area being drained )

C = 1.0 ( for roof slope 1 :10 )

I = 150 mm/hour

A = 12.50 x 10.50 = 131.25 cm2
