LESSON PLAN IN STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY

Core Subject Title: Statistics and Probabilities

Learning Competency: Identifies the appropriate form of the test-statistics when:
a) the population variance is assumed to be known
b) the population variance is assumed to be unknown;
c) the central unit theorem is to be used.

LESSON PLAN IN M11/12SP-IVb-2

I.OBJECTIVES. At the end of the lesson, 75% of the students will be able to identify the appropriate form of
the test-statistics when the population variance is assumed to be known and unknown.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Test of Hypothesis-Form of Test-Statistics
B. Statistics and Probability
Materials: Laptop, activity sheets, Manila paper, masking tape

III. PROCEDURE
A. Review of the previous lesson.
B. Lesson Proper
 Motivation
Game on arranging the jumbled letters to form a word. Words that can be formed are
found or related to the lesson.

C. Presentation
a. Explain the objectives of the lesson using power point presentation.
b. Explain the activities that the students will undergo during the period.
c. Explain how they will use the materials in the activity.
d. Explain the expected output in the activity.
D. Strategy (Cooperative learning- group task)
1. Activity
In groups students will conduct an activity on identifying appropriate form of test-
statistics when the population variance is assumed to be known and when it is assumed
to be unknown.
2. Analysis
Based on the activity that we have, how do you identify the appropriate form of test
statistics when population variance is assumed to be known? How about when
population Variance is assumed to be unknown?
3. Abstraction
Discussing the process on identifying the appropriate form of test statistics.
More illustrative examples are being discussed.
4. Application
 Identify the appropriate form of test-statistic in the given problem.

1. It is assumed that the mean systolic blood pressure is μ = 120 mm Hg. In the Honolulu Heart
Study, a sample of n = 100 people had an average systolic blood pressure of 130.1 mm Hg with a
standard deviation of 21.21 mm Hg.

IV. EVALUATION
Identify the appropriate form of test-statistic to be used in the given problem.
1. Boys of a certain age are known to have a mean weight of μ = 85 pounds. A complaint is made that
the boys living in a municipal children's home are underfed. As one bit of evidence, n = 25 boys (of
the same age) are weighed and found to have a mean weight of \(\bar{x}\) = 80.94 pounds. It is
known that the population standard deviation σ is 11.6 pounds (the unrealistic part of this example!).

V. ASSIGNMENT
1. In the given problems in the application and evaluation, identify the rejection region for a given level of
significance.
