Does your family enjoy outdoor recreation? Do you like to go camping, hiking,
bicycling, swimming or any fun activities? Outdoor activities promotes active learning
through direct personal experience and offer fun, experience and adventure with the
framework of ethics and safety. Taking part in any outdoor activities can greatly
improve yourself. It contributes for your personal growth, skill focused learning,
problem solving, team building, social awareness, improve life skills and develop
sense of responsibility as a person.
Whatever activities you choose, as long as you and the other people around you are
cautiousto show and exercise good ethics, politeness, and kindnesses towards
activity engagement, you can assure yourself and expect for a good outdoor
experience.
There are few common practices and principles that apply to all outdoor areas and
activities. Following these practices, everyone will have fun and enjoy the precious
moment.
The Leave No Trace Seven Principles
1. Plan ahead and prepare - Determining the objectives, the specific goals and
the essential activitiesare the most important principle in pre planning. In
addition, the skills to be strengthen, abilities and capabilities to enhance
should also be considered in doing the said plan. It is also necessary to
conduct ocular inspection on the selected places and choose among the
different venues the most appropriate site to hold the physical outdoor
activities. You can simply plan and identify the outdoor activities based on the
management strategies, assigning the task ahead of time, the things to
prepare and the duration of the needed activity. The advantages of a well-
planned activity is you can ensure the safety of theindividuals and the group.
It can identify the health hazards and able to minimize or avoid problems to be
encountered during the given activity. Once these are done, the outdoor
recreation implementation will run smoothly. The expected outcome and
accomplishing the set objectives are positively achieved and will become a
more enjoyable experience.

2. Camp and travel on durable surfaces - It’s really fun and exciting to
experience an outdoor recreational activities with family, friends and
classmates in an appropriate site and space that can be used and to
accommodate the number of participants. Suitable surface can minimized the
damage to the land and waterways, possible injuries and accident can be
avoided if you will strictly follow the rules given at the area.

3. Dispose of waste properly - “Pack it in, Pack it out” is the most common
mantra to all outdoor recreational visitors. One way of showing respect and
courtesy to the next user of the recreational land or area is for them to have
the responsibility to clean up before he or she leaves the area. Inspect all the
activity area , rest areas and pack out all the garbage before leaving the site,

4. Leave what you find - consider the idea that “good campsite are found not
made”, In a camp whether a day camp, backyard camp, overnight camp or a
3-5 day outdoor camp, It is right and proper to leave the areas as you found
them. Minimize the campsite alterations or if you rearrange the area because
of the given task activity, you are oblige and appropriate to clean up the site
and dismantle the inappropriate user built facilities before leaving.

5. Minimize campfire impact – campfire is the most awaited part of the outdoor
activities wherein different talents are show case in the light of fire. Fire has a
great impact in the environment and to avoid damage and negative effect, you
can use alternative way to conduct the said event. Use lightweight stove for
cooking, when campfire is permitted, make use of fire rings, fire pans. Keep
the fire small, only use fallen dead wood when permitted, consider the
alternatives to campfire.

6. Respect wildlife – Know more and learn more about wildlife by taking a look
through quiet observation. Do not disturb wildlife or even plants just for a
“better look”. Observe wildlife from a distance so that they are not scared and
not to flee or run. If you are in a large group, make your group in cluster so
that it can minimize your impact. Quick steps and loud noises are stressful to
animals.
Responsible and considerate campers observe wildlife from afar. Keep food
scraps and garbage away from the animals. Washing and human waste
disposal must be done carefully to avoid water contamination and air pollution.

7. Be considerate to other visitors - one of the most important components of

outdoor ethics is to maintain courtesy towards other visitors. Let them enjoy
and experience a good quality, outdooractivities. Let the natures sound
prevail and avoid talking too loud.

Safety is an important concern in all physical activities whether indoor or outdoor.
