Spread Puppy Power Through Instagram

1. Delightful profile picture: it is attention-grabbing, and it is pleasing for readers to

look at.

2. Interesting account name: when people saw it, they should naturally connect it to “an

apple a day, keeps the doctor away”. In this way, people understand the positive

influence of this account. Because puppies can benefit people to relieve stress, gain a

brighter mood, and resolve loneliness. Thus Puppy is like the "apple", they both keep

doctors away and they can make people have a healthier life.

3. Beautiful and insightful posters: the one in the sample was just a meme. But later on,

I will create professional-looking and inspiring posters for the posts.

4. Post content: I will include short and straightforward sentences to tell people the

theme of the post, thus people can understand immediately without losing interest.

5. Hashtags: I used a lot of hashtags in the post. Because when anyone wants to search

any keyword related to my post, my post should come up in their view very quickly.

6. Slogan: If I put a short but straightforward slogan on every poster. People will have a

deeper impression of my poster, thus people who read my poster could remember

these messages in their life.

Themes of The Posts:

1. Adopting dogs not only gives a puppy home and family.

2. Puppy adoption improves the quality of people’s lives during the pandemic.
 3. Adopting a dog could help people mentally and physically during a social lockdown. For

instance, puppies can help people ease their feelings of loneliness, stress, or anxiety.

4. Puppy’s existence is stress relieving and it teaches people a sense of responsibility.

5. Adopting a puppy could be a life-benefiting and unforgettable experience.

Reflection:

What did you learn from reading your classmates’ drafts and their comments to you?

My classmates gave me a lot of good advice about how to make my Ins posts more attractive and

comprehensive. I also think my classmates' advice provided me with another point of view. I

could improve my posts to be more reader-friendly based on their opinions.

What is your impression of your own work--its strengths and weaknesses?

I think my translation project has fewer words compared with other forms of translation projects

such as PPTs or videos. PPTs or videos could carry more information and more details in their

projects, the readers could gain more information about the original article from their project.

The advantages of my translation project are straightforward and visually attractive, people have

a more delightful reading experience for it is less work to read, and my Ins Posts could reach a

wider reader group.

What are your plans for revising your genre translation? What will you change? What will you

continue to work on?

I think I will add more pictures to some of my posts. More pictures gave people the opportunity

to gain more information from me. Additionally, I think I will add a few more hashtags. I will

also make more posters for my posts.

What are your challenges?

1. When I first encountered this translation project, I had no idea how to start. I learned how

to paraphrase in high school, but the translation project was much more than paraphrasing

an article. The translation project taught me whole new ideas about “genre” and “media”,

and it is our purpose to switch the genre and media(optional) of an academic article. I had

to read similar examples of translation projects in order to understand how should I

translate an academic article.

2. Finding the best way to translate my academic article was not easy. My article was about

how adopting a puppy can benefit both humans and dogs, and puppies are not dangerous

to people for they are not just virus carriers. I want more and more people to get to know

about these so more puppies can be adopted, more humans can be saved from stress and

loneliness, and fewer people will abandon their puppies. I decided to use PPT to both

textually and visually represent my information. But Instagram was a better option for me

because bigger the platform could reach more groups of people.

3. I was not familiar with Instagram because I barely use it. I had to use the “hashtag”

function in order to target my audiences. But it became difficult if I want to target people

interested in “puppy adoption” or people interested in “puppy” while I want to target as

many people as possible. I had to play around with different keywords such as “#puppy”,

“#adoptingpuppy”, “puppyadoption”, “pandemic”, “stress”, “loneliness”, and so on. I use

best-fitting keywords to help me find the people with related interests while these

keywords had huge numbers of posts and people following.
