SUBJECT: — Designation of Special Event Areas — Something in the Water Festival

By virtue of the authority vested in me as the Mayor of the District of Columbia by section 422(1 1)
of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, approved December 24, 1973, 87 Stat. 792, Pub. L.
93-198, D.C. Official Code § 1-204.22(11) (2016 Repl.), and pursuant to 19 DCMR § 1301.8, it
is hereby ORDERED that:
1. This Order applies to certain special event activities associated with the Something in the
Water festival. Something in the Water (SITW) is a three-day festival that brings together
musical artists and the community. In addition to musical programming, SITW partners
with local organizations throughout the week to promote additional programming focused
on the culinary world, technology, environmental sustainability, and health and wellness.
2. The SITW festival will begin on Friday, June 17, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., and will end on
Sunday, June 19, 2022, at 10:30 p.m. Closures of streets for setup for the festival will
begin on Monday, June 13, 2022, as further designated by this Order.
3. Beginning on Monday, June 13, 2022, at 6:00 a.m., the following areas shall be designated
as a Special Event Area to accommodate SITW activities, setup, and breakdown:
a, Westbound lanes of C Street, SW, between 4th Street, SW, and 6th Street, SW,
which shall be closed to vehicular traffic; and
b. Eastbound curb lane of C Street, SW, between 4th Street, SW, and 6th Street, SW,
which shall be closed to vehicular parking.
4. Beginning on Monday, June 13, 2022, at 8:00 p.m., the following areas shall be designated
as a Special Event Area to accommodate SITW activities, setup, and breakdown:
a. Independence Avenue, SW, between 3rd Street, SW, and 4th Street, SW, which
shall be closed to vehicular traffic; and
b. Maryland Avenue, SW, between 3rd Street, SW, and Independence Avenue, SW,
which shall be closed to vehicular traffic.10.

Beginning on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at 8:00 p.m., the following areas shall be designated
as a Special Event Area to accommodate SITW activities, setup, and breakdown:
a. Independence Avenue SW, between 7th Street, SW, and 9th Street, SW, which shall
be closed to vehicular traffic; and
b. 4th Street, SW, between C Street SW, and Jefferson Drive SW, which shall be
closed to vehicular traffic.
Beginning on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at 8:00 p.m., the following area shalll be designated
as a Special Event Area to accommodate SITW activities, setup, and breakdown:
Independence Avenue, SW, between 4th Street, SW, and 9th Street, SW, which shall be
closed to vehicular traffic.
Beginning on Thursday, June 16, 2022, at 8:00 p.m., the following areas shall be designated
as a Special Event Area to accommodate SITW activities, setup, and breakdown:
a. 6th Street, SW, between Independence Avenue, SW, and C Street, SW, which shall
be closed to vehicular traffic; and
b. Maryland Avenue, SW, between 6th Street, SW, and 7th Street, SW, which shall
be closed to vehicular traffic.

b. Eastbound curb lane of C Street, SW, between 7th Street, SW, and 9th Street, SW,
which shall be closed to vehicular parking; and
c, Eastbound curb lane of Independence Avenue, SW, between 9th Street, SW, and
12th Street, SW, which shall be closed to vehicular parking,
Any additional streets or alleys, or portions thereof, in the vicinity of the Special Event
Areas designated by this Order that are necessary for the safety of the public or for further
traffic mitigation as designated by the District Department of Transportation, Homeland
Security and Emergency Management Agency, or Metropolitan Police Department, which
may be closed to traffic or vehicular parking, Announcements of any additional rolling
closures, including beginning and end times, shall be posted on mpde.de.gov.
All closures authorized by this Order shall be lifted no later than Tuesday, June 21, 2022,

11. The Government of the District of Columbia is authorized to operate the Special Event
Areas designated by this Order and to conduct necessary and appropriate activities in aid
of the Special Event Areas for the SITW festival,
12. This Order is an authorization for the closure of the designated streets only, and the
operating entities shall secure and maintain all other licenses and permits applicable to the
activities associated with the operation of the event on the designated streets. All building,
health, life safety and use of public space requirements shall remain applicable to the
Special Event Areas designated by this Order,
13. EFFECTIVE DAT
This Order shall become effective immediately.
