FLUID POWER PIPE, TUBING, AND HOSE DESIGNING PROGRESS REPORT

PURPOSE OF REPORT

The purpose of this report is to update George H. on the progress of the design activities for pipe,
tubing, and hose. We started this project on May 1, 2022 and are awaiting for the hose design. This
report was written on May 19, 2022.

Task list and estimated dates:

1. Get design reports for pipe (May 9) 11. Put a sleeve and nut on the tube and
flare one end (May 11)
2. Get the tools for pipe (May 9) 12. Bend the tubing at correct lengths
3. Read the design plans and cut the pipe (May 12)
to correct lengths (May 9) 13. Put your final sleeve and nut on and
4. Put threads on both end of the pipe flare that end (May 12)
(May 10) 14. Attach the project to a JIC tee and
5. Connect your pieces with the 45 and 90 pressure test it (May 12)
degree fittings (May 10) 15. After completion of tubing, get design
6. Attach the fitting for air pressure to be reports for hose (May 12)
hooked up (May 10) 16. Get the tools for hose (planned May 23)
7. Test the design for a pressure test 17. Read the design plans and cut hose to
(May 10) appropriate lengths (planned May 23)
8. After completion of pipe, get design 18. Press the correct fitting onto each side
reports for tubing (May 11) (planned May 25)
9. Get the tools for tubing (May 11) 19. Hook the hose up to be pressure tested
10. Read the design plans and cut tubing to (planned May 25)
correct lengths (May 11)

WORK ACCOMPLISHED

MAY 9
 Design report was given by George.
 Pipe tools were issued for use.
 The plans were read and the pipe was cut to the correct lengths.

MAY 10
 Threads were put on both ends of the pipe.
 Pipe was connected with the correct 45 and 90 degree fittings.
 Air fitting was attached for pressure testing.
 The design was air tested in a bucket of water, it passed the test.

MAY 11
 Pipe was completed, the design reports for tubing were handed out.
 Tubing tools were issued for use.
 Design plans were read for tubing and the correct lengths were cut.
 A sleeve and nut were inserted onto the tubing, then one end was flared.

MAY 12
 Tubing was bent at the correct lengths.
 The final sleeve and nut were put on, then this end was flared.
 Finished tubing project was attached to the JIC tee and then pressure tested, tubing passed the
test for pressure.
 Tubing project was completed and hose design plans were handed out.

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED
 Some of the JIC fittings were not good for use.
 Tubing from the factory had creases in it, this caused for excess waste of tubing.

WORK REMAINING

MAY 23

 Get the tools necessary for hose, ask if they can be handed out any sooner.
 Ask to stay after class to get the hose cut.

MAY 25

 Try to see if the fittings can be crimped on any sooner.

 Ask George to come in early so the hoses can be pressure tested.

CONCLUSION

 Due to previous experience, this project was fast tracked for what could be completed. We were
able to stay on schedule until we ran out of lab time. This put the hose design on hold for now.
Friday’s were made optional days to come in and complete the hose project in a timely manner.
We should be able to complete the hose project within the next week.

RECOMMENDATIONS

 I recommend coming in on the optional Friday’s, this will allow for the project to exceed
completion dates.
