LEARNING

We learned several things before, during, and after conducting our community
project. Like, learning isn`t limited to the classroom. Many colleges have evolved
relationships with network companions that allows them to provide service-mastering
packages to their college students in a manner that is incorporated with positive classes.
These are packages that place college students into the network as volunteers and interns,
permitting them to place their coursework into exercise in real-global settings. By taking part
in dependent volunteer opportunities, college students benefit from precious enjoyment
that could assist them plan careers even as on equal time giving again to the network.
During and after those experiences, studies suggest that project-primarily based totally
mastering enables college students to deliver their new expertise to their coursework,
presenting a deeper information and appreciation in their discipline.

Although there are principles that can be applied to communities, each community
must be treated as its own independent organism. What works in one community may not
work in another. Dealing with nuances within the community is the best way to build real
relationships and ultimately add value to where you need them most. If you really listen,
your community will tell you what they need. This can take the form of explicit comments
and discussions, but it can be worth digging a little deeper to determine what types of
content, tools, and resources are actually resonating with members. Flying alone is not easy.
Identify areas where help is available due to the need for expertise or additional hands. Gain
the power of the community by finding natural leaders and encouraging them to play an
important role in the community.

You are part of the community you are building, but you have to respond to
different needs and opinions. Ultimately, you want your community to grow and prosper-
with or without you-and that may mean giving up some personal agenda items. Think of it
like a parent and a child. One of the greatest gifts parents can give their children is the
ability to make it themselves in the world. This lesson also applies to the community. Clear
community rules with strict enforcement are an important way to maintain a safe
environment for members. It is important for everyone to know what is expected, what is
allowed and what is not. You may want to make exceptions, but maintaining consistency is
the key to keeping things transparent and fair. However, if you think about exceptions often,
you probably need to revisit your rules. After learning that advocacy plays a very important
role in the multiple sclerosis community, we revisited the community rules for advertising
that apply to everything from research to personal donations.
