PHYSICAL SELF

Physical self - it is the individual's


impressions of themselves in terms, of
physical abilities and attractiveness.
Physical ability refers to things like
strength and endurance, whereas
appearance refers to things like beauty
and body image.

OBESITY

Obesity - is a complex disease involving an excessive


amount of fat. Obesity isn't just a cosmetic concern. One of
the negative effect of these I'll is having a lack of physical
attractiveness in impression formation are perhaps felt most
strongly by those, whose body sice doesn't meet to a cultural
standards. Those who are noticeably over- weight rend to be
evaluated negativily. ( Allon, 1982, English,1991).

Obesity can effect economic opportunities as well. A recent


study of young women in Britain found that those heaviest
10% of Thier non obese counterparts and those in the
heaviest 1% earned 11.4% less (cited in "Physical traits, 1994).

Erik Homburger Erikson was a
German-American developmental
psychologist and psychoanalyst known
for his theory on psychological
development of human beings.

He coined the phrase Identity Crisis( a


developmental event that involves a
person questioning their sense of self
or place in the world).

He attests that experiences are rooted in the
ground plan of the body.

He expounded on the role of the bodily organs that


are important, particularly in the early stages of
development of a person's life.

In his analytical psychology did not
deal clearly with the role of the
body but chooses to direct his effort

that physical process is important

THE AESTHETIC SELF
Aesthetic means the pleasant, positive or artful
appearance of a person or a thing. A person must be
an artist who can create an image that is a reflection
of what he wants to be.

A person must be an artist who can create an image

body is a wonderful creation.the radiance that comes
from lovely thought, the zest of youth and good
health together with good posture, proper exercise
and balanced diet are bases of beauty in people

SELF ESTEEM
AND SELF CONCEPT
Self-esteem pertains to global or overall evaluation of the
self. Self-esteem is likewise self-worth or self-image.

Self-concept is one's own specific evaluation of the self.


People can make self evaluation in various domains of
their lives-either academically, performance or
appearance.

In totality self esteem is the global self evaluation, while


self concept is the very own self evaluation.

inner thoughts and feelings. people who are high
in private self - consciousness tend to think
about themselves a lot and agree with
statements such as " I'm always trying to figure
myself out " and " I am generally attentive to my
inner feelings". (Lalwani, Shrum & Chiu, 2009)

SELF-CONSCIOUSNESS

In contrast, refers to the tendency to focus on


outer public image and to be particularly aware
of the extent to which people are meeting the
standards set by others.
those high in public self-consciousness agree with
statement such as " I'm concerned about what other
people think of me", " before I leave my house , I check
how I look and " I care a lot about how I present myself
to others."
