ELOHIM: OUR CREATOR GOD

Worship Songs:
1. He is Yahweh
2. Creator King

Why we should continue to study the Names of God (Knowing the God you
worship by Dr. David Jeremiah)

“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus
Christ whom You have sent.”
John 17:3 NKJV

Knowing about God is crucially important for the living of our lives.

If we don’t know the true God, we run the risk of creating our own God or we will
let other people create God for us.

1. Knowing God gives a whole new sense of pride in life

“This is what Yahweh says:

Don’t let wise people brag about their wisdom.
Don’t let strong people brag about their strength.
Don’t let rich people brag about their riches.

If they want to brag, they should brag that they understand and know me.
They should brag that I, Yahweh, act out of love, righteousness,
and justice on the earth.
This kind of bragging pleases me, declares Yahweh.” Jeremiah 9:23-24 NOG

2. Knowing God gives a whole new sense of purpose in life

“Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of
knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else,
counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ.” Philippians 3:8 NLT
3. Knowing God gives a whole new sense of power in life

“…the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great
exploits.” Daniel 11:32 NKJV
4. Knowing God gives a whole new sense of peace in life

“I will hear what the True God—the Eternal—will say, for He will speak
peace over His people, peace over those who faithfully follow Him.” Psalm
85:8 VOICE

We need to make knowing God a priority.

God will take your search for Him to the exact same degree to which you seriously
search for Him. The key to knowing God is to really want to know Him. God will
never leave anybody short who really wants to know Him. You will not be
disappointed. God will meet you at the point of your search.

If you’re going to walk with God, you’re going to have to accept some things you
don’t understand because God will confound the mind to test the heart. That
means He will do things you do not understand just to see if you will love Him and
trust Him anyway.

We have to develop a Hebraic mindset – think like a Hebrew.

We must transform our minds to the way God thinks.

We must adopt His thoughts for today rather than our own. (A Time to Advance
by Chuck Pierce)

Part of this is knowing the Hebrew language.

There are 22 letters of Hebraic Alphabet. Each letter has a corresponding name,
number and picture.

1st Part: Elohim: The Creator

Meditation:

(References: Lord, I Want to Know You by Kay Arthur and Knowing God by J.I.
Packer)

1st Mention of God as Elohim in the Bible is in its very 1st verse: Genesis 1:1

“In the beginning ELOHIM created heaven and earth.” Genesis 1:1 NOG

One of the names of God in the Old Testament is Elohim. Primarily it designates
God as God. Deuteronomy 10:17 says, “The Lord your God (Elohim) is God of
gods…”

El means mighty or strong and is used for any reference to gods, including
Almighty God.

Elohim is the primary word translated God in the Old Testament.

The “Him” ending of Elohim is very significant, for it is plural ending in the Hebrew
that indicates three or more.

Elohim, the name for God as Creator, is used in Genesis 1:1 and thus could be
translated, “In the beginning Gods created the heaven and the earth.”

Does this mean that there was more than one God? No!

Deuteronomy 6:4 says, “The Lord (Jehovah) is our God (Elohim), the Lord is one.”
God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, the blessed Trinity, created
the heavens and the earth. One in essence, in character, yet three persons united
as one.

As we read various Scripture, we can see references to the different persons of

the Godhead participating in the work of creation.

In Genesis 1:2,3 we read, “the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the
waters. Then God said. “Let there be light”, and there was light.”

“By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God…”
Hebrews 11:3

God spoke, the Spirit moved, and Colossians 1:16 tells us that in Him, in Jesus
Christ, the Son of God, “all things were created, both in heavens and on earth.”

Thus, we see that each person of the triune Godhead had a part in creation.

The creation story in Genesis is very familiar to us.

In Genesis 1-2, we can see the account of how God created the earth in 6 days.
On the 1st day, He create light. On the 2nd day, He create the sky. On the 3rd day,
He created dry ground and plants. On the 4th day, He created the sun, moon and
stars. On the 5th day, He created the birds and the sea creatures. On the 6th day,
He created the land animals and humans.

It is amazing to hear this fact once again that our God created all these things by
just speaking of their existence. We can see how great our Creator is. He has no
equal. There is no one like Him.

Isaiah 40:

Verse 12 says, “Who has held the oceans in His hand? Who has measured off the
heavens with His fingers? Who else knows the weight of the earth or has weighed
the mountains and hills on a scale?”

Verse 15 says, “…all the nations of the world are but a drop in the bucket. They
are nothing more than dust on the scales. He picks up the whole earth as though
it were a grain of sand.”

Verse 22 says, “God sits above the circle of the earth. The people below seem like
grasshoppers to Him! He spreads out the heavens like a curtain and makes His
tent from them.”

Verses 25-26 say, “To whom will you compare me? Who is my equal?” asks the
Holy One. “Look up the into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings
them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of His
great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing.”

Verse 28 says, “Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The LORD is
the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary.
No one can measure the depths of His understanding.”

So, after knowing that our Creator God is Great and Majestic, what should be our
response?

1. Why is the name Elohim the first revealed name of God?
2. What is God speaking to you personally through these verses?

2nd Part: The Creator and the created

Meditation: (Lord, I Want to Know You by Kay Arthur)

There is a song with the lyrics, “Why was I born? Why am I living?” They are more
than words to a song, aren’t they? They are the heart’s cry of every human being
who seeks to know the reason for his existence.

Why were you born? Why did Elohim create you?

Search out the answer to these questions and you will know the purpose of your
life.

Genesis 1:26 says, “Then God (Elohim) said, “Let Us make man in Our image.”

The “Us” has to refer to more than one – we are created by the Triune God.

We carry the name of God in our very being. How is this of relevance in our daily
lives? It is intimately connected with how we walk through our days.
Let us consider how the shape of our skeleton in the Name of God, together with
the breath He gives us, affects our spiritual lives.

Simply put, when others, particularly those who do not know God, observe your
behavior and appreciate the righteousness of your actions, and the godliness of
your character, they will be drawn closer to God and His ways – and that is
Kiddush HaShem – Sanctifying His Name.

God is Creator of all things.

“All things have been created through Him and for Him” (Colossians 1:16).

And why were you created? For Him!

You are a unique creation of God, one of a kind, created for His glory. He “didst
form my inward parts”; He “didst weave me in my mother’s womb… I am fearfully
and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139: 13, 14).

In Isaiah 43, we read,

“But now, thus says the Lord, who created you… And He who formed you…:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are
Mine.” (v.1)

“For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior…” (v.3)

“Since you were precious in My sight, you have been honored, and I have loved
you;
Therefore, I will give men for you, And people for your life.” (v.4)

“Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory;

I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” (v.7)

According to Isaiah 43, Elohim, the One who made man in His image, created you
for His glory.

The word glory in Hebrew is “kavod”, and it means “to give the correct weight or
value; to give the correct opinion or estimate of.”
We can begin to see how awesome it is to know that we have been created for
God’s glory – that we are to live in such a way as to give all of creation a correct
weight or value and a correct estimate of who God is.

What does this mean to you? How would you live if you were to live for His glory?

3. Revelation 4:11

What is God speaking to you personally through these verses?

Conclusion:

His Name is Elohim, the Almighty God, your Creator. You have looked at
Scriptures of Yahweh Elohim, and why He created you. You are created for His
glory, for His pleasure.

Your life is to be lived in such a way as to reflect Him, to show the world the
character of God. His love, His peace, His mercy, His gentleness. You are to live
for Him, to accomplish His will. To miss this is to miss fulfillment. It is to have
existed rather than to have lived.

Commitment and Declaration

You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power;

For You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.

Your Name is Elohim, the Almighty God, my Creator. You created the earth and
everything in it for Your glory and pleasure. And You created me for Your glory,
Your pleasure, to bear Your image and likeness.
Enable me to live my life in such a way as to reflect You, to show the world Your
character, Your love, Your peace, Your mercy, Your gentleness. I commit to live
for You my God, to accomplish Your will.

Amen.
