Subject

Engine overheating.

Failure/Problem

Thermostat defect. If the thermostat defect, the hot water is not flow to radiator.
Therefore, engine is overheating.

Symptom

After starting the engine about 15 minutes, the IECU is appear from engine overheat alarm.
The engine is very hot.

History

The engine is not new engine. The machine is used about 3000 hrs.
About 1000hrs, the radiator core is clogging.
At the same time, Volvo coolant (VDS new coolant) is not used.
The machine is using water instead of coolant.

Cause & analysis

1.Insufficient cooling water

2.Fan belt loose or cracked
3.Defective radiator core or clogged
4.Defective water pump
5.Defective thermostat
6. Cooling system clogged by foreign material.

Action

We check coolant and water pump belt.

This is good condition. Radiator core is visual checking it is good.
And then we check thermostat.
So, we dismounting thermostat housing.
We take out the thermostat from housing.
We prepare the boiling water by kittle.
The thermostat is placed boiling water.

Remarks
But the thermostat valve is not open.
Engine hot water is not circulate inside the radiator.
So, engine is overheat.
