Methodology

The analysis in this report is based on results of a survey conducted from

February 25th to March 2nd, 2022 among a sample of 4009 adults, 18 years
of age or older, living in Canada. The survey was conducted using auto-
mated telephone interviews (Smart IVR). Respondents were interviewed on
landlines and cellular phones. The survey is intended to represent the voting
population in Canada.
The margin of error for the poll is +/- 1.5% at the 95% confidence level. Mar-
gins of error are higher in each subsample.
Totals may not add up 100% due to rounding.
For each statement, please tell us whether it is often true,

What was/were the reasons for not accessing food or
meals from a community organization? (Other reasons
mentioned)

Answer Frequency

I am retired so I often eat toasts. So I make do with that. 1

I only eat organic food and I am vegan 1
I simply got by on my own. 1
I tried to get help, but I was refused. I am a Canadian citizen, 1
but I was refused because I didn’t have my income tax
documents.
Income bracket is technically too high to receive assistance 1
elsewhere
It’s not safe. It’s COVID 1
No answer 6
Special diet restrictions due to medical issues that can’t be 1
accomidated by food given to food banks
The food bank said that I made too much money to get any 1
food from them
The items at food bank were expired. 1

The reason is, even though I can’t afford food because inflation 1
is so high, I have an income of $40,000 a year and the city
where I live, I don’t qualify for that kind of stuff and they won’t
let me access those services.
There was only one way to get food through my specific city in 1
my specific area. And I had to apply. And when I applied
nobody got back to me. I couldn’t even tell you where it is
because I didn’t get approved in any way, shape or form.
No response 1
Nobody should have to access food through community 1
supports man. Right? The government needs to stop
destroying our economy. It’s ..that’s just stupid
Were you working for pay in the three months before COVID-
19?
