How to Surface prep a car

It is very important to properly prep the surface of the car. The reason it is so important to prep
it properly is because the surface could corrode, or the paint could not spray on correctly and
fail. Therefore, making sure you follow each step properly is important otherwise the shop
could lose money. These 15 easy steps below will help you properly prep the surface of a car.
Tools and materials needed:

 D.A. sander
 Sandpaper
 Sanding block
 Safety protection

Make sure to always wear your PPE while in the shop.

1. Clean the car with water and soap
2. Completely dry
3. Remove trim or emblems
4. Check for damage
5. Use body filler if needed
6. Put up masking tape and paper
7. Start sanding with sandpaper of choice
 8. Sand until its not shiny or until its bare metal

9. Wash and wax and grease remove car

10. Spray primer
11. Wait 20 minutes for primer to dry
12. Use tac rag
13. Spray another coat of primer
14. Use tac rag
15. Block out the primer sprayed
These are all the proper steps to successfully prep the surface of a car. The prep stage is the
most important stage of the repair. Make sure you read and understand the instructions for
better results. Results may vary depending on how the steps are followed.
