The following is a memorandum from the business manager of a television station.

"Over the past year, our late-night news program has devoted increased time to
national news and less time to weather and local news. During this time period,
most of the complaints received from viewers were concerned with our station's
coverage of weather and local news. In addition, local businesses that used to
advertise during our late-night news program have just canceled their advertising
contracts with us. Therefore, in order to attract more viewers to the program and
to avoid losing any further advertising revenues, we should restore the time
devoted to weather and local news to its former level."

Write a response in which you discuss what specific evidence is needed to evaluate
the argument and explain how the evidence would weaken or strengthen the argument.
In a memorandum for the business manager of a television station, the assertion
about restoring the time devoted in television to weather and local news to an
increased level has been argued. Due to the complaint from viewers and canceling of
advertisements from local businesses, the increase in time devoted to local and
weather news is assumed to ameliorate this situation. However, the argument is
lacking evidence to fully convince the reason for increased time devotion to local
news and weather report. Here are three such pieces of evidence which are needed to
evaluate the argument.

Firstly, the evidence about the statement of complaints must be presented. Perhaps,
most of the complaints received from viewers may be regarding the inefficiency of
local news to be presented properly or the weather news being frivolous as it can
be easily viewed on mobile phones and search engines. The viewers may be
complaining about not including them or completely eradicating such types of news.
If so, the argument will be weakened. If the complaint appeals for the devotion of
more time for such programs, the argument will be strengthened as the television
should appease the viewers.

Secondly, the evidence about the reason for canceling the advertisement should be
clearly researched and mentioned. Maybe, local businesses may have started to
advertise on some other television as there are more interesting programs at late-
night. Perhaps, the viewers don't watch the news at all as they are exhausted due
to their day-long duties and just want to entertain at night and that's why the
late-night news advertising companies are investing in advertisements in such
programs. So, the reason for canceling advertisement should be clearly mentioned
with proofs to strengthen the argument.

Thirdly, over the past year, the television has gained more viewers and the
coverage of local news may not be pertinent to all of the viewers. That's why the
television is more focused on national level news and the complaints are from some
of the local people who do not like the change in their favorite television. Also,
as the television is more globalized, the amount for advertisement has been
increased as per the popularity, so the local businesses are abjuring from it. So,
the evidence about the change in past year which caused the low coverage of local
news should be mentioned.

The arguments, as it stands, is flawed and demands for more evidences to

effectively argue for more time devotion for local and weather news in the
television. The above mentioned evidence will clarify the reason and then justifies
requirement of more time devotion.
