Problem Statement
SET - 01

Basic calculations
Given Data -
Yield Stress = 320 MPa
FOS = 2

Allowable Stress = Yield Stress / FOS

= 320 / 2
Allowable Stress = 160 MPa.

Maximum Allowable Deflection = 3 mm

SIMULATION STEPS & SCREENSHOTS:
1) IMPORTING STEP FILE & CREATING PROPERTY:

2) CREATING SECTION:
3) ASSIGNING MATERIAL:
4) CREATING LOADS, BCS, CONSTRAINTS & STEPS:
5) CREATING MESH:
6) SIMULATION RESULTS – TRIAL 1 (100 N)
STRESS = 321.5 MPa
DEFLECTION = 3.675 mm
7) SIMULATION RESULTS – TRIAL 2 (60 N)
STRESS = 192.9 MPa
DEFLECTION = 2.205 mm
8) OBSERVATION & CONCLUSION:
As the generated Stress Value 192.9 MPa is very near to allowable Stress 160 MPa
We can Say that spring can withstand External Load of 60 N with Stresses & deflection
Remain within allowed limit.

In this problem we performed 3D stress analysis on the given spring bracket and
determined the stress & deflection for different External Loads.
Maximum stress is observed on the curved surfaces of the spring plate. Maximum
deflection is observed on the bottom semi-circular hook part.
In Trial 1, 100 N load is applied.
 Maximum stress observed is 321.5 MPa, which is higher than permissible stress of 160
MPa for a FOS 2.0.
 Deflection observed is 3.675 mm, higher than the limit of 3 mm.

In Trial 2, 60 N load is applied.

 Maximum stress is 192.9 MPa, which is lesser than permissible stress of 160 MPa for a
FOS 2.0.
 Deflection observed is 2.205 mm which is within the limit of 3 mm.
