NASA Reflection

For this year's Nasa Hunch I worked with my partner Natalie Cooper to create a
project. Our initial concept was to interview a teacher here at tech about climate change
and have a short informational segment. We also wanted to have a short skit
commercial break about ways to help the environment. We ended up deviating from
our original plan and cut the skit out and ended up replacing it with a slide show with
tips on helping save our environment. Our final project included an opener explaining
what climate change is, the interview, and the informational slide show.
During the pre production we brainstormed about an idea for a project. We
played around with the idea of doing a weather segment and using the green screen but
ended up deciding on the interview. We created our script and production calendar. Our
biggest object was finding a person to interview. The first person we asked ended up
declining and the second never responded. We contacted Mr Riley and he agreed to do
it but we had trouble finding a date that worked for him which delayed our project. The
delay ended up setting back our project a couple of days.
During Production we filmed our skit and interview. We ended up not using the
skit footage because our audio was bad and hard to understand despite our use of a
microphone. The interview went pretty smoothly. I worked the teleprompter and Natlie
interviewed Mr Riley. It only took a couple of tries to get the full thing. Before the
interview we had problems with the internet but in the end we were able to finally get
ourf interview.
During post production we were responsible for editing all the footage we shot.
We imported everything into premiere and began piecing it together. We created the
slide show of information and put it at the end. We put in our b-roll and music and fixed
audio. Our biggest challenge was learning after effects. Both me and Natalie are not
that familiar but with the help of Mrs.Lazarski we were able to make out lower thirds.
My favorite part of the NASA hunch project was production and post production. I
really enjoyed working in the control room and got to work the teleprompter. I liked being
in the back and preferred not to be on the set where Natalie was. I surprisingly like
editing. I am more comfortable with working premiere and after effects not so it wasn’t
as frustrating as before. I learned how to make lower thirds and played with the audio.
My biggest strength would be production. I like filming and being in the control
room. I like working with people and doing hands-on stuff. I also feel like I improved my
editing skills. To help myself even further I think doing more projects and gaining more
experience will allow me to get better. My weakness would probably be planning. We
kind of just planned as we went. To help us plan better we should make a more
thorough script.
Our program objective was to help inform people about climate change and how
Nasa helps educate us about the issue. We wanted to show how CTE skills are
important in helping our planet. I think we met our objective and hit all these points in
the interview. Our slideshow also included extra information on how to help out planet
and gave links for more information. Although we did deviate from our original path I
think we stayed pretty close to our original goal.
