Hair here, hair there... Vaginas are everywhere!

An exhibition I've recently seen is The Dynamic Dead by Roee Rosen at Centre for Contemporary Art in Ujazdowski Castle. As it was organized by our lecturer who is very familiar with art, I knew that It won't be anything usual... And I was not wrong... Roee Rosen is a painter, writer and filmmaker and theoretician of art. He works in Tel Aviv, Israel. Rosen is known for his controversial attitude to life, relationship between lovers and Holocaust. Controversial but still politically correct. He is not releasing he's work under own name. He creates fictional identity, what helps viewer to feel empathy with created imaginary character. The exhibition itself is divided in 3 parts. Live and Die as Eva Braun in which author presents the last days of World War II from Hitler's mistress perspective, Justine Frank who is fake Belgian Jew, surrealist artist created by Rosen. And the most inappropriate for younger viewers part - Confessions - where the history of perversion and pure evil is presented. And the last, most interesting part is video Hilarious - and experiment which shows us how laugh can be activated as one of defense mechanisms of people. Installation was really impressive. The room where part with Eva Braun was shown was real craft. Divided in parts by half-walls, lined with description of presented scenes forced me to imagine how it looked like in her eyes. She was lover of the most evil person in the world! Also another part of this exhibition was presented in really interesting way - The Funeral Paintings. In those paintings we see funeral of Rosen from his point of view (lying in grave). It was hanged on walls in some kind of corridor which I firstly passed without stopping for a while. After I realized that I skipped it, I came back and that made me think, that it was great idea of such paintings I, completely not interested in funeral of some artists just went across the room. Rosen is great manipulator, he's able to make people laugh from anything at anytime. And this is the main strength of this exhibition. Even if you are not interested directly in paintings, forced to go there, you won't leave disappointed. The biggest weakness for me is that, despite mentioned parts, exhibition was really boring and... predictable. Passing rooms I was able to say what will be next painting and what will be the main point of it. And I was usually right vagina. Dear Rosen, it was really too much! As I have already pointed out, I'm not a fan of such kind of art and Rosen exhibition didn't convinced me. At some moments it was boring, I was dreaming about leaving it but sometimes it was really interesting. Despite that I wouldn't recommend it to anyone to visit it. Micha Kulesza
