Question and Answer Format

Name: John Errol C Ausa Date: 04/06/22 Grade:

Course & Section: BSIT-3D Topic: INTRODUCTION TO MOBILE COMPUTING

1. State the two features and two Limitation of 3G Wireless Technology

Answer:

Limitations of 3G Mobile Communication:

Requires higher bandwidth. Cost for the 3G mobile phone is high. Size of the phone is large. Difficult to

build the infrastructure for 3G the amount is high for 3G Licenses Services.

Some of the main features of 3G are:

Speed of up to 2 Mbps.

Increased bandwidth and data transfer rates.

Send/receive large email messages.

Large capacities and broadband capabilities

2. State three functions of mobile computing with example

Answer:

1. User mobility: User should be able to move from one physical location to another location

and use same service 2. Network mobility: User should be able to move from one network to another network

and use same service 3. Device mobility: User should be able to move from one device to another and use

same service.
3. Describe fixed channel assignment and dynamic channel assignment

Answer:

Fixed Channel Allocation(FCA) Dynamic Channel Allocation(DCA) Fixed number of channels or voice

channels are allocated to cells. Fixed number of channels are not allocated to cells. If all the channels are

occupied and user make a call then the call will be blocked in FCA.

4. List four Mobile computing Devices and state the function of two mobile devices

Answer:

1. LAPTOP.

Laptops combine all of the input and output capabilities and components of a desktop computer,

including its display screen, keyboard, speakers, data storage, disc drives, and pointing devices (a touchpad or a

trackpad), with a processor and operating system into a smaller device.

2:TABLET.

Tablet computers resemble smartphones in some ways and can also be used to take photos, make

phone calls, send messages, record videos and perform other tasks that can be performed by a smartphone as

well.

5. What is mobile computing? Give its functions

Answer:

Mobile Computing is a technology that allows transmission of data, voice and video via a computer or any

other wireless enabled device without having to be connected to a fixed physical link. The main concept

involves − Mobile communication. Mobile hardware. Mobile software.

6. Explain Handoff Strategies

Answer:

In cellular communications, the handoff is the process of transferring an active call or data session

from one cell in a cellular network or from one channel to another. In satellite communications, it is the

process of transferring control from one earth station to another.

7.List various mobile computing functions

Answer:

1: Notebook computer.

A notebook computer is a battery- or AC-powered personal computer generally

smaller than a briefcase that can easily be transported and conveniently used in temporary

spaces such as on airplanes, in libraries, temporary offices, and at meetings

2: Laptop computer.

Laptops combine all of the input and output capabilities and

components of a desktop computer, including its display screen, keyboard, speakers, data

storage, disc drives, and pointing devices (a touchpad or a trackpad), with a processor and

operating system into a smaller device.

3: Tablet computer.

Tablet computers resemble smartphones in some ways and can also

be used to take photos, make phone calls, send messages, record videos and perform other

tasks that can be performed by a smartphone as well.

8.Describe how repeaters are used in range extension

Answer:

Use of Repeater for range extension.

Therepeaters are bidirectional in nature. They simultaneously send signal to and receive

signals from base station. The repeater work using air signals so that they may be installed

anywhere and are capable of repeating and entire cellular and personal communication

(PCS) band.

9.Define Frequency Reuse and Handoff

Answer:

Technique for using a specified range of frequencies more than once in the same

radio system so that the total capacity of the system is increased without increasing its

allocated bandwidth

10.Describe microcell zone concept

Answer:

The increased number of hand off, increase load on the switching and control link because of sectoring.

A solution to this problem is given by microcell zone concept. Large control base station is replaced by several

lower power transmitters on the age of cell.
