Q. 1 Solve the following questions: (1m x 3 = 3 marks)


i) If 6x2 + x – 15 is divided by 3x + 5, what is the quotient?
ii) A solid cube of edge 14cm is melted down and recasted into smaller and
equal cubes each of edge 2cm, find the number of smaller cubes obtained.
iii) How much less than 3a2 – 6 is 2a2 + 1?

Q.2 Do as directed: (2m x 5 = 10 marks)


i) Subtract the sum of 3l – 4m – 7n2 and 2l + 3m – 4n2 from the sum of 9l + 2m
– 3n2 and -3l + m + 4n2
ii) The walls and ceiling of a room are to be plastered. The length, breadth and
height of the room are 4.5 m, 3 m and 350 cm, respectively. Find the cost of
plastering at the rate of Rs. 8 per square metre.
iii) Sunita is twice as old as Ashima. If six years is subtracted from Ashima’s
age and four years added to Sunita’s age, then Sunita will be four times
Ashima’s age. How old were they two years ago?
iv) Multiply 5p2 + 25pq + 4q2 by 2p2 – 2pq + 3q2
v) A number consists of two digits whose sum is 9. If 27 is subtracted from the
number the digits are reversed. Find the number.
Q.3 Solve the following questions: (7 marks)
i) A room has 5m long, 4.5m wide and 3.6m high has one door 1.5m by 2.4m
and two windows, each 1 by 0.75m. Find: (3m)
a) the area of the four walls, excluding its doors and windows.
b) the cost of distempering its walls at the rate of ₹ 4.50 per m2.
c) the cost of painting its roof at the rate of ₹ 9 per m2.
ii) The length of the rectangle exceeds its breadth by 3 cm. If the length and
breadth are each increased by 2 cm, then the area of new rectangle will be 70 sq.
cm more than that of the given rectangle. Find the length and breadth of the
given rectangle. (2m)
iii) A well with 14m diameter is dug 8m deep. The earth is taken out of it has
been evenly spread all around it to a width of 21m to form an embankment.
Find the height of the embankment. (2m)
