where and how and including the time period of know how

Body of the LOR with instances on quality

• Three body paragraphs

• Each paragraph contain distinct three qualities of the student with example
• Since you would be asked to submit 3 separate LORs in general hence make sure that no
attributes are repeated in the LORs
• Including the instance twice and highlighting different qualities is okay. Example on the
same project work one recommender writes on your leadership and other writes on your
innovative solution. This is acceptable
• End the LOR with the recommender’s information like the name, designation, department,
organization and contact details

Qualities to be highlighted

• Academics, Awards and Recognition, Research, Team work, Management, Multi-tasking,

diligence, creativity, integrity, Leadership
CONTENT COVERAGE FOR PROFESSIONAL (LOR)

organization and contact details
.
Qualities to be highlighted

hard work and independent work, ownership, Leadership
AVOID FOLLOWING MISTAKES

1.Choosing wrong recommender.

• Go for someone who knows you personally and can articulate your association and work better. Also the recommender
should be a senior and not at the same level as judging the work becomes relatedly easy and relevant.

2.Not giving enough time to write the recommendation letter

• Give at least one month of time
• Going last minute and asking someone to write a LOR among busy schedule would be unfair and lead to poor quality

3.Not validating candidature with examples

• If there are no examples then the LOR does not hold value.
• Only praising will not hold any value but follow it up with an example
• Recommender should mention outcomes wherever applicable and what impressed them

4.Missing out on areas of improvement

• Too much praise is not good.
• Have at least one weakness mentioned in the LOR

5.Tone should not be dry

• Have a warm tone while writing the LOR to make it impressive
• E.g. use the name of the applicant instead of calling ‘The Applicant’
