The changes
With the directive 97/23/EC, a single certification scheme replaces the former national
systems and applies throughout the European Union regarding design, manufacturing
and conformity assessment of pressure equipment.

Third party conformity assessment is performed by Notified Bodies designated by the

Member States.

The CE marking is the indication that the product is in compliance with the applicable
directives. It gives free access to the European market.

When?
The pressure equipment directive and the CE marking are applicable from
29 November 1999.
