Jewish summer camps like J&R can continue to change kids’ lives
here in Pittsburgh and around the world.
Israel is one of those kids. He has autism spectrum disorder, and making
friends is incredibly difficult for him. This summer, Israel participated
in the Merck Summer Therapeutic Inclusion Program at J&R, a one-of-
a-kind experience integrating kids on the autism spectrum with typical
peers. J&R is the only provider for this kind of program in Western
Pennsylvania. For the first time, according to his mom, Israel is learning
how to interact with children his own age in a social environment — and
he gets to swim and play basketball every day.
One contribution to Jewish Federation touches so many. You support
Emma Kaufmann Camp (EKC), also a program of the JCC, where
campers are immersed in an environment that fosters Jewish values
and a positive relationship to Judaism. Camp is enhanced by Israel
education and programming with Israeli shlichim — emissaries — as
well as campers from Karmiel and Misgav, our partnership region in
Israel through Partnership2Gether. Thanks to your support, former
EKC campers also have the opportunity to participate as counselors
in training with Israeli counterparts in our partnership region, as
part of their leadership development training.

Your contribution builds a Jewish identity for children all over the world through
Jewish camp, and both formal and informal Jewish education. In Kishinev, Moldova,
our overseas partner the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI) runs a summer camp for
300 Jewish children and youth, ages 8-25, many of whom discover their Judaism
for the first time through this program. In rural Hungary, our overseas partner the
American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) connects 1,300 kids and teens
with Judaism at Camp Svarvas.
When you continue to contribute to the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh,
you change lives for families and children — and for thousands of others locally and
worldwide. With your help we can continue to provide services like this for years to
come.
Help families — and ensure the future of the Jewish people — in the ’Burgh and around
the world. Please make a donation to the Jewish Federation’s Campaign today.
With best wishes for a healthy and fulfilling new year,

Meryl Ainsman, Linda Joshowitz,
