Lesson 2: Dance as an Artistic Expressions

I. BASIC CONCEPT OF DANCE

C. Dance as an Artistic Expression

— Dance is an art because with dance you are able to tell a story without using your
mouth. Through your choreography and your facial expressions, you are able to
completely change yourself into another character.
— Dance is an exposure of human body in its most naked form whether one is raising their
hand or performing in ballet.

— It can be said, "dance is a kind of artistic expression, which is based on the principle of
aesthetics and body movement as the medium." ... As a human form of the "moving"
art, the beauty of the dance is the body of a variety of "shape" of the movement.

— To organize and develop artistic ideas


Create - Through exploration and experimentation, a dancer learns how to create and
conceptualize their own choreographic ideas.
Perform - With a variety of fundamental dance skills, learning and refining dance
technique expands the movement options and strengthens the body such as functional
alignment, core support, balance, weight shifting, and body patterning.
Respond - The opportunities to explain how dance communicates, aesthetic and
cultural values also strengthens the ability to perceive and analyze artistic work.
Connect - Dance literacy and a deeper connection to dance through written and verbal
communication of the variety of cultures that reveals the ideas and perspective of the
people.

Activity 1 – MY FAVORITE STUFF

2. With the material you have, I wanted you to express yourself together with
it.
Activity 2 – USE YOUR BODY TO EXPRESS “ME”
Take a picture of yours that portray the following:
1. Tree
2. Cat
3. Balloon

Activity 3 – Individual Self Portrait Solo

1. You are going to take a picture of yourself using the 5 moods:


Happy – You won CHAMPION in a Dance Contest
Sad – Your best friend transferred to another school
Scared – of Ghost
Excited – for an outing
Angry – because somebody told you that “you are ugly!”
2. Be sure your attire fits the moods you are portraying.
3. Paste it on the frames below.
4. On the center, paste the picture of a local dancer you’ve inspired most.
