SECTION - 3
Paragraph Type
This section contains 2 paragraphs, each describing theory, experiment, data etc. Four questions relate to two
paragraphs with two questions on each paragraph. Each question pertaining to a particular passage should have
only one correct answer among the four given choices (A), (B), (C) and (D).

Paragraph for Question Nos. 51 and 52

To find the solution of an equation graphically, we use to draw the graph of L.H.S. and R.H.S. separately on the
X-Y plane and the point(s) where these graphs intersect represent the solutions(s) of the given equation. For
example to find number of solution(s) of the equation ex  lnx = 1, we write the equation as lnx = e–x and when we
draw the graphs of y = lnx and y = e–x, we get one solution.

51. Number of value(s) of x satisfying e–x  sinx = 1 where x  [–2, 2], is

(A) Zero (B) 1
(C) 2 (D) 4
52. Number of solution(s) of the equation log2|x| = |||x| – 1| –1|, is
(A) Zero (B) 2
(C) 4 (D) 8

3x  x3
Sometimes we use trigonometric identities to find the roots of an equation. For example, if = 1, then to find
1  3x 2
the value of x, we put x = tan here and the equation will be tan3 = tan45°. Now one possible value of  is 15°,
thus the possible value of x is tan15°, which is (2  3 ) .
