Introduction

Centaurus Cineplex is a joint venture between” A.T.M.N Entertainment” and “M.E Cinemas”. Information
about A.T.M.N Entertainment is very scarce. M.E stands for Mandviwalla Entertainment. Aside from Centaurus
Cineplex, M.E runs The Atrium Cinemas in Karachi. It also used to manage DHA Cinema in Lahore and Nishat
Cinema in Karachi which was one of the most important and notable cinemas in Pakistan for generations.

Organization Hierarchy

The names of individuals were not disclosed. The site manager oversees the work of about 60 staff members.

1
Organizational Structure

Span of Control
The organization has a wide span of control as the Site Manager oversees the work of about 60 staff members.

Departmentalization
Cineplex Centaurus has geographical departmentalization.

Centralization and Decentralization

The decision making is mostly decentralized. Staff Members are instructed to solve issues on the spot without
any delay to avoid any negativity among the audience. At most the staff members are going to find a temporary
solution until the higher-ups are notified.

Work Specialization
The work specialization is low.

Competitors and Customers

The competitors are all the other cinemas in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. On the other hand, a cinema’s customer
base is as diverse as the range of movies offered. From young teens to adults, students to professionals,
unmarried singles to families with kids, every movie has its own audience.

Social Responsibility
There was no information available about any welfare work. But the cinema does endorse social responsibility
through the types of movies they offer. Any movie that could be offensive towards minorities or even a movie
that goes against the society’s social and cultural norms would not be screened by the cinema. Generally movies
that have a negative impact on the audience are less likely to end up on the cinema’s screen.

Decision Making
In the cinema industry, everything has to be perfect for the audience to really enjoy the movie. Problems can
arise from anywhere including the audience itself. So, the staff is instructed to solve any problems by
themselves if they can as soon as possible and try not to leave a problem hanging in the balance.

Human Resource Management

The H.R.M practices are pretty much by the textbook. Hiring of employees is done through interviews. After
the interviews, the H.R.M department will recommend the applicant for a specific department. Then the new
employee receives training for 1-2 months by working with more experienced employees.

SWOT Analysis
Strengths
 Tech companies are working day and night to improve user experience in every way possible. Better
screen panels, sound systems, audio and video quality and so much more. Cinemas adopt such
technologies to improving their customer’s experience.
 Entertainment is always in demand. You always have someone who just wants to break out of the hectic
daily routine and spend some quality time with his loved ones. A visit to the cinema to watch the latest
blockbuster movie would do the job.

Weaknesses
 The biggest source of revenue for Pakistani cinemas is Indian movies. If they are banned for some
reason (which they currently are), it’s going to have a negative impact on the whole cinema industry.
 Related to the first point, cinemas have to depend on movies from foreign countries because the
domestic film industry is small and just not there yet. They’re not even close.

Opportunities
 With the frequency at which movies are being pumped out, there are movies for everyone. And with the
world becoming smaller and smaller, you have much more movie enthusiasts than ever before. People
who watch, criticize, endorse and speculate on movies.

Threats
 As the world is becoming a smaller place, you have to remain on your toes at all times. Terrorists can
easily predict when the cinema is going to be packed and formulate a plan. If you want to blow yourself
up, a cinema is would seem like an ideal location.
 I admit that even I am to be blamed of this crime. Downloading pirated movies is easy and economical.
