PROJECT GUIDELINES 2022-2023 FOR CLASS X

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Please remember; Learning that takes place as a result of research and


collection and collation of data is a learning for life. Therefore, do not take
help where you are capable of doing it yourself.
1) Only handwritten work will be accepted.
2) Coloured photocopies & computer prints are NOT allowed. No additional
marks for such things are given. No spiral binding of the project is
required.
3) Please do NOT cut encyclopedias, dictionaries and atlases.
4) Pictures taken from newspapers and magazines will be appreciated. Do label
the pictures.
5) Bibliography and acknowledgment are mandatory.
6) For each subject, the project / assignments subject wise must not
exceed 1200 to 1500 words (15-18 pages)
7) Refer to the scope of syllabus for the objectives and marking scheme of
the project ICSE 2023 (for Class X)
8) The projects/assignments should be submitted on the dates mentioned in
the calendar.
9) Use the decorative material from your SUPW / Art material; drawing
sheets etc. for all the projects.
10) Acknowledgements: This should be formally written. Read
“acknowledgements” printed at the start of some books to get an idea.
11) INDEX must be written like this:

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECTS/ASSIGNMENTS:


✓ To develop skills in collection; collating and use of data / facts.
✓ To develop the ability to present information with the help of appropriate
diagrams/maps/sketches etc.
✓ To be able to draft and use different tools to gather data, conduct
interviews/ prepare questionnaires/surveys etc.
✓ To enhance the understanding of how and why things/events happen.
✓ To help students identify ways and means of preventing specific
occurrences.
✓ To familiarize the students with various terminology.
✓ To enable students to express their views and opinions giving valid
arguments and statistics.
✓ To practice written expression in the form of stories, essays, letters.
✓ To familiarize and practice formats of letters and other writing tasks.
✓ Other objectives include: stimulating creativity and imagination; creating an
awareness; analysing a given situation and gathering information that acts as
a support in understanding the topics in the syllabus.

• Students will do the project work/ assignment in the project period as per
the teacher’s instructions.
• Students are allowed to bring Laptop, Smartphone on the project day to do
the research work.
• Marks will be awarded on the basis of the work done on the project day.
• The projects/assignments should be submitted on the dates mentioned in
the calendar.
• The assignments/projects will be evaluated by the subject teacher and by
an external examiner.
• Total marks for the project: 20
• Subject Teacher (Internal Examiner) 10 marks.
• External Examiner 10 marks.

• The Internal Examiner and the External Examiner will assess the
candidate’s work independently.
• Subject Teacher (Internal Examiner) 50 marks.

GROUP 1 SUBJECT: ENGLISH LANGUAGE

OBJECTIVES:

• To develop the ability to present the facts.


• To enhance the understanding of how and why things /events happen.
• To familiarize the students with various terminology and vocabulary.
• To enable students to express their views and opinions giving valid arguments or
details.
• To enhance the linguistic skills of the students.
• The students will be able to present the matter cohesively.
• Other objectives include: stimulating creativity and imagination, create an awareness;
analyze a given situation; to gather information that acts as a support in understanding
the topics given etc.

ASSIGNMENT GUIDELINES:
• There will be two parts of the assignment.
a) Students will be required to write on any one of the prescribed topics in 300-350
words.
b) Creation of Social advertisement and explanation of the same.
• The project will be for 20 marks.
• It is compulsory for all the students.
• Students will be assessed internally by the subject teachers and also by an external
examiner.
• The assignment must be in student’s own handwriting.
• Submission would be in hard copy.
• Only Cover page required to be made with personal details and name of subject, index,
Acknowledgement and Bibliography are not required for the assignment. The method
of assessment of the project work remains as per the criteria mentioned for the ICSE
2023 Examinations

LANGUAGE ASSIGNMENT FOR CLASS X

Q1. Write a composition of 300-350 words on any one of the given topics: -
a. Describe a visit to a National Park/National Heritage site. What was the experience like
and what did you learn?

SUB TOPIC: Theorems

OBJECTIVE: To state and prove the theorems given below using basic properties of
angles and triangles.

GUIDELINES:
State each of the given theorems one by one and prove accordingly.
(i) Angle Properties
• The angle that an arc of a circle subtends at the centre is double that which it subtends
at any point on the remaining part of the circle.
• Angle in a semi-circle is a right angle.
(ii) Cyclic Properties:
• Opposite angles of a cyclic quadrilateral are supplementary.
(iii)Tangent and Secant Properties:

• The tangent at any point of a circle and the radius through the point are perpendicular to
each other
• If two circles touch, the point of contact lies on the straight line joining their centres.

• If two chords intersect internally or externally then the product of the lengths of the
segments are equal.
• If a chord and a tangent intersect externally, then the product of the lengths of segments
of the chord is equal to the square of the length of the tangent from the point of contact
to the point of intersection.
• If a line touches a circle and from the point of contact, a chord is drawn, the angles
between the tangent and the chord are respectively equal to the angles in the
corresponding alternate segments.

GROUP 3 SUBJECT: ENVIRONMENTAL APPLICATIONS

PROJECT TITLE: Solid waste management

OBJECTIVE:
1. To evaluate and realize the harmful effects of waste accumulation on human health and
the environment.
2. To be able to collect, analyse and present statistical data.
3. To encourage innovative thinking and problem-solving skills to cope up with the issues
of waste management.

GUIDELINES:
1. Make a foldable display board on the project topic indicated above. A sample picture of
the same is given below-

2. Side 1: Methods of Waste Disposal- There are numerous techniques of waste disposal.
Choose any five methods usually adopted in India to dispose solid waste and describe
these methods in detail. Images could be used to make it more appealing.
3. Side 2: Collection of Data- (a) Collect data of different types and quantity of wastes
generated (e.g., metals, plastic, e-waste, clothes, food etc.) in India in the last one
decade.
Collect data to show the quantity of solid waste generated in major Indian cities-
Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata for the past one decade.
These data are to be shown in the form of bar graph, pie chart etc.
Evaluate and analyse the types of waste that are majorly produced and the cities that
generate maximum amount of waste.
4. Side 3: Suggest Methodologies towards Waste Management-Suggest some
techniques that can be implemented in your school in order to cause less waste
generation. Also suggest ways in which you can deal with the existing wastes generated
in your school.
5. Conclusion- Conclude the project and focus on the importance of Waste Management
in India.

CASE STUDY 1: DASTKAR- A Society for Crafts and Craftspeople.

OBJECTIVES:
1. To realize the importance of sustainable technology in today’s world.
2. To understand how local expertise can be used in improving country’s economy.
3. To realize the importance of traditional art and craft.

GUIDELINES:
1. History of Dastkar- Dastkar is a society that promotes art and craft; they aim to
improve the economic status of Indian artisans and seek to rejuvenate India’s traditional
arts and crafts. Describe their history and objectives
2. Many projects are undertaken by this NGO. Describe the two projects given below in
detail:

use of local materials and local knowledge without causing harm to the environment.

CASE STUDY 2 – CHERNOBYL DISASTER

OBJECTIVES:
1. To learn about the potential dangers that nuclear energy holds.
2. To follow safety measures to be taken to prevent such disasters.

GUIDELINES:
1. Cause of Chernobyl accident – Explain when and how was it caused. (Stick relevant
pictures)
2. How many people died as an immediate result of the accident and how many were
evacuated?
3. Major health effects of the accident on people.
4. Which radioactive elements were emitted into the environment?
5. What was the effect of the accident on the environment?
6. What lesson was learnt from Chernobyl disaster?
7. Write short notes on any two similar nuclear disasters.

i. Project will be evaluated on- precision, neatness, indexing, content.
ii. Case study will be evaluated on- comprehensiveness, accuracy in collecting data, range
of sources used, inferences drawn, perspective gained.
