    The 6th Ethnic Nationalities Conference was held from June 9-11, 2011 on the Thai-Burma border. Representatives from seven states and special invitees participated. The conference welcomed the formation of the United Nationalities Federal Council and efforts to solve political problems through non-violent means. It also welcomed the merger of two Shan state armies and their commitment to protecting the people of Shan State. Further, it welcomed plans to introduce local ethnic language education in schools. The conference called on the President to cease military operations against ethnic groups and begin a nationwide ceasefire and peace talks. It reaffirmed the commitment to building a democratic federal union with equal constituent states practicing self-determination.

    911June2011 ThaiBurmaborder 1) The6thConferenceofEthnicNationalitieswassuccessfullyheldontheThaiBurmaborderfrom911June, 2011inwhichrepresentativesfromthesevenStates,advisorsandspecialinvitees,altogether40persons participated. 2) TheEthnicNationalitiesCouncil(ENC)welcomestheformationoftheUnitedNationalitiesFederalCouncil (UNFC)anditsresolvetosolvepoliticalproblemsthroughpoliticalmeans. 3) TheENCwelcomestheeffortsoftheShanStateArmy(North)andtheShanStateArmy(South)tomergeinto asingleShanStateArmyandtheirresolvetoprotectthepeopleofShanState. 4) TheENCwelcomestheintentionoftheAllMonRegionsDemocracyParty,ChinNationalParty,Phalon SawawDemocraticParty,RakhineNationalDevelopmentPartyandtheShanNationalitiesDemocraticParty, tointroducelegislationtoteachlocalethniclanguagesingovernmentschools. 5) TheENCwelcomesthedesireofPresidentUTheinSeintobuildtrustwiththeethnicnationalitiesand nationalunitythroughaPyidaungsuspirit. 6) TheENCintheinterestofthenation,callsonPresidentUTheinSeintostopmilitaryoperationsagainst ethnicnationalitiesforcesandinsteadproclaimanationwideceasefireandpeacetalks. 7) TheENCreaffirmsitscommitmenttostrivetobuildademocraticandgenuinePyidaungsuwherethe constituentstatesareequalinpoliticalstatusandpracticetherightofinternalselfdeterminationin conformitywiththespiritofPanglong. 8) TheENCfurtherreaffirmsitsdeterminationtoseekapoliticalsolutiontotheproblemofnationalunityin ordertobuildapeaceful,prosperous,modernanddevelopednation. 9) TheconferenceelectedPadohSawKweHtooWinasChair;andDrSuiKharasSecretaryGeneral,andNai KasauhMonasDeputySecretaryGeneral.
