Dear Parents/Guardians,

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Rasa Kalesnykaite, I am a new Orchestra teacher at Oak
Middle School for this school year, 2022-2023. I am a graduate of the University of Houston where I
earned my master's degree in Music. I am excited to start teaching and cannot wait to get to know and
work with your children!

My goal in the Orchestra class is for students to enjoy making music together. The first few days of the
orchestra class will include: exploring each of the 4 stringed instruments, the parts, the care of an
instrument and a bow, introduction to music notation. Besides the occasional test on musical notation,
success in my classroom will be measured by students' participation and engagement in playing their
instruments. Once they pick their instrument of choice, students will be required to take their
instruments home daily and expected to practice what we will be learning. Please encourage students to
do so as it is imperative for their achievement.

During our school year we will have two concerts, one in the winter and one in the spring, to show you
what we have learned. Students’ attendance for these events will be mandatory as performance is a
part of the assessment for the class. In case someone will not be able to make it, there will be assigned
days as an opportunity to perform in front of their peers.

I am looking forward to meeting you and working with your children as we start our adventure in the
music world! Please feel free to reach out to me via email or phone if you have any questions or
concerns. I will be happy to communicate with you and help your child to succeed!

Sincerely,

Rasa Kalesnykaite
