LESSON PLAN FOR WEEK [3] ENDING [27-05-2022]

SUBJECT: TECHNICAL DRAWING

TOPIC: ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION
TIME: 40 MINUTES
SCHEDULE: 9:30-10:50
AVERAGE AGE: 15 YEARS
LEVEL: SS2
NUMBER OF LEARNERS: 4

TIME TABLE FIT: In the previous lesson, the learners had learnt about the meaning of
orthographic projection, its principle and the types of orthographic projection

MAIN AIM: The learner will be able to prepare the drawings of the symbols of orthographic
projection and be able to prepare and dimension the drawings of orthographic views.

SUBSIDIARY AIMS: By the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to
1. Produce the drawings of the symbols of orthographic projection
2. Prepare and properly dimension orthographic views

PERSONAL AIM: To ensure that the learners fully understand how to properly produce the
drawings of the symbols of orthographic projection, and how to prepare and dimension
orthographic views

ASSUMPTION: The learners may have seen or heard about the symbols of orthographic
projection and orthographic views from their textbooks or online

ANTICIPATED PROBLEM: The learners may find it difficult to understand the symbols of
orthographic projection and the preparation and dimensioning of the orthographic views.

POSSIBLE SOLUTION: The teacher will have to explain extensively about the drawings of
the symbols of orthographic projection and about the drawings and dimensioning of
orthographic views.

TEACHING MATERIAL: Drawing materials and equipment, Charts, Posters, Video clips,
etc.

LEAD IN: Orthographic projection is a technique used in the creation of multi-view drawings.
Orthographic projection is the most common method employed in engineering to produce the
drawings giving details from which components are made. It is a collection of 2-D drawings
that work together to give an accurate overall representation of an object.

PROCEDURE

STEP 1: SYMBOLS OF ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION

The front view and end view of a frustum of a cone is used to develop the orthographic
projection symbols. The orthographic symbols are shown below
 First angle projection symbol

 Third angle projection symbol

STEP 2: DRAWING OF ORTHOGRAPHIC VIEWS
Example 1: In orthographic projection, produce the drawing of the orthographic view in first
angle projection:
1. Front view from the direction of the arrow shown,
2. End view
3. Plan

angle projection:
1. Front view from the direction of the arrow shown,
2. End view
3. Plan

TEACHER’S EVALUATION: the learners fully understood the symbols of orthographic
projection and the preparation and dimensioning of the orthographic views

CONCLUSION: Orthographic projection is a parallel projection in which the projectors are
parallel to each other and perpendicular to the plane of projection. It is the most commonly used
in engineering to produce multi-view drawing. Orthographic projection technique can produce
either single pictorial drawing that show all the tree dimensions in front view or Multi-view that
show only two dimension object of the object in each view.

BIBLICAL PRINCIPLE: HUMANITY: Humans are different from animals, having intrinsic
value and inherent worth because they are made in the likeness and image of God (Genesis 9:3-
6)

BIBLICAL INTEGRATED LESSON: By the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to
understand that just as orthographic projection is a projection of an object to a plane of
projection.so we as humans are different from animals because we are the projection of God’s
image and likeness which gives an intrinsic value and inherent worth in God’s eyes and all
creation.
