Clinical Field Experience D: Deliver a Professional Development Session

During this clinical field experience, I spent 3 hrs. At NANA’S preschool and Kindergarten. I

presented my Topic 2 Powerpoint presentation to my mentor and two other teachers at the school.

This presentation targeted three main topics: ‘How to incorporate State Standards in the lesson

plans’, ‘How to use open-ended centers to compliment your lesson’, and ‘How to evaluate the

information learned has been retained’.

After the evaluation tools had been completed, I carefully reviewed each one and

understood some changes needed to be made. To begin with I wasn’t clear enough explaining

how lessons should have goals. Even if the intention of the lesson is promoting fine motor skills,

the educator should incorporate these milestones in their lessons. It transforms all activities into

learning experiences that develop skills that will stay with them for a lifetime.

Furthermore, I received great feedback on my design. The teachers appreciated the

images and one of them advised me to use pictures of myself performing these tasks… I found

this interesting. In a way I believe in doing so I would promote trust in my audience and

demonstrate that I have the experience and hands on training required to be giving the

presentation at hand.

In conclusion, the Powerpoint presentation on professional practices and implementation

of state standards was well perceived, the evaluation tool was easy and quick to fill out, and my

mentor was happy with my performance. Therefore, I will make sure to keep using tools such as

eye catching images when presenting, as well as real life examples for teachers to relate to, and

implement a loud and clear voice to project when standing before a room full of educators.
