Message from Sharon: Montessori del Mar Learning Center

This song will be sung in a three part round on Thursday Dear friends, dear friends, during our last day ceremony. let me tell you how I feel, Please join in! Let us celebrate You have given me such treasures, each other and all of the I love you so. memories we have made this Love, joy, inner peace, year. Our shared experiences like a Sunday morning breeze, of learning together, sharing All my friends you are so welcome, good times and difficult times, I love you so. caring for each other, and just being together day by day, are the treasures that the song speaks of. Ours is a special place, and each one of us brings something to the learning center that is unique. Thank you for your hard work, faith, compassion, and service to each other. Bae has had an incredible first year, and so many of you have helped in his experience of being the village child. One day, I noticed that he was wearing Shynes hand me down shoes, but that the socks were Temples, the diaper was Ronin and Aarons, the shirt was Treys, the jacket was Nicos, the pants were Diegos, the stroller was Dantes and the hat was made by Lorry. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Cotton, to the Sprouts and learning center students and teachers, and to all of the others who have given Bae and our family support throughout the year! It really has been a life changing experience for us to have been shown such generosity and kindness. These last couple of weeks of being together at the learning center are all about closure. We had a lovely music recital last week, and the children will finally perform their Great Lessons play this week. They have all been working so hard on their music and on their parts in the play. Performing arts can be challenging, and require discipline, but the gifts of sharing music and drama together are immeasurable! Thank you to Lorry and Myra for their dedication to our children. The Skunk Train ride was awesome! We all thank Anaswara for organizing that fun day out! There is more fun to come at the Daniels house on Friday when we all gather for an end of the year party. Our children have such fun (Continued on inside) Montessori del Mar Learning Center friendsofmontessoridelmar.blogspot.com

Please speak to Phyllis if you are interested in helping with the outside play yard project this summer. We are looking for volunteers who can help tear out the remaining carpet and put down laminate flooring over the summer. Please let a board member know if you can help. The learning center will undergo another remodel over the summer. The library will be expanded into Baes room giving the children more workspace.

Keep in Touch
Remember to check the facebook page over the summer for news, updates and pictures of the summer projects.

Parent Survey
Please return the Parent Questionnaire as you are able. Included in the newsletter are copies, just in case you might have misplaced them. Hand them in, mail them in or stick them in the drop box. We need your input!

Goodbye, So Long, Farewell My Friends

Chandra Lotus, Mac Smiley and Arhum Ahmad will celebrate their last day at Montessori Del Mar on June 16. Nikolas Drake, Noah Krebs, Holiday Barrett and Dante Graham are all moving or going elsewhere for Kindergarten. We will miss you all and treasure the time we spent together.

Back to School
On Monday, August 29th, there will be Back-to-School Orientation at 5:00 p.m. Please bring your entire family and a potluck item to share with the group. We will meet new families and see old friends. It is important that all families attend. We will be going over program guidelines, expectations for the new school year and program structure. The only anticipated changes next year will be Lorry and Myra in the classroom for more hours and Sharon in the classroom full-time. Even though the official start of school is August 29th, Kindergarten through 6th grade students will start their classroom work on Tuesday, September 6th. The first week of school (August 29-September 2) will be a home-school week for the students. Kinders will be 1/2 day during that week. Sharon will instruct the families on home-study ideas at the Backto-School Orientation on August 29th.

Welcome New Friends!

We are looking forward to expecting new Kinders and 1st graders in the fall. Ben Martin, Ivy Tarnoff, and Angelino Martinez will be joining theKinders in September. Selah Davis will be joining the 1st graders.

together, and it really shows! I was complemented several times during the train ride on the way our children interact with each other. Theres nothing like a bunch of happy, loving children to brighten up ones day! We had a great time with Tamara Wilder last week learning ancient games and techniques for making string, beads, fire, and weapons. These lessons allow our children to use their hands in practical ways, and to gain respect for humans who interact with the earth naturally. Next year, our great lessons lead us into the study of early humans, ancient civilizations and local aboriginal culture. Please take time during the summer to document your experiences as a family in nature. Some ideas are: nature journals, shadow boxes, flower and leaf pressings, seed collections, insect displays, and leaf or bark rubbings. We have been learning how to use field guides, and agreed as a class to identify the plants, mushrooms and animals in our backyards and neighborhoods during the summer. Have a warm and relaxing summer!

Enrollment
Some enrollment fees are still outstanding. If your child is enrolling for Kindergarten, the fee is $100. All other enrollees need to pay $200. Please pay your enrollment fee ASAP. Please remember that the parent body (we) hold the lease for the building year round and (we) have bills to pay year round. Monthly dues of $50 per Kindergartener and $100 per 1st-6th grader will resume in September. Every family will receive a packet in the mail in August requesting September dues, a cleaning money envelope, a calendar for snack rotation, a recess duty calendar
