EUROPEAN LEGISLATION

Eye, Face and Respiratory Protection in Welding Activities

Under European Commission direction, it is the employer’s responsibility to assess the needs for
personal protective equipment in their working environment and, where required, to provide the
necessary PPE free of charge to the workforce.

Personal protection during welding related activities requires the combination of a number of PPE
devices, all of them working together to deliver a high level of protection for the tasks.

The testing and classification of eye protection is achieved through compliance with the
requirements established in EN 166 for protective lenses and visors, while for welding filters, the
applicable standards are EN 169 for passive filters and EN 379 for Automatic Darkening Filters (ADFs).
Effective Welding PPE solutions combine the optical protection offered by the welding filter against
harmful intense light from the welding arch (in particular in the form of IR and UV light), with the
mechanical strength protection that comes from the protective lenses and visors against flying
particles generated during welding related activities.

Integral protection of the face is completed with a barrier against mechanical hazards (i.e. flying
particles) provided by the interaction of face shields and protective lenses (regulated by EN 166) and
welding shields (required to comply with the requirements under EN 175) to deliver a welding PPE
solution. The following classification applies:

Classification of mechanical strength

Class S Increased robustness (drop ball test 5.1 m/s)
Class F Resistance to high speed particles at low energy impact (45 m/s)
Class B Resistance to high speed particles at medium energy impact (120 m/s)
Class T Energy impact is conducted at extremes of temperature (-5°C and + 55°C)

Additional protection may require the use of the following PPE:

Assisted respiratory devices, in particular Power Assisted Purifying Respirators (PAPRs) that offer
protection against airborne solid and liquid particles, may work in certain cases in combination with
filters against a range of gases and/or vapours. PAPRs systems are classified according to tested total
inward leakage (among other requirements indicated in EN 12941), being TH1 for a maximum 10%,
TH2 for a maximum of 2% and the highest performance TH3 for a maximum of 0.2%.

Hard hats, which deliver head protection (among other requirements indicated in EN 397) and
integrated with welding and face shields and PAPR systems, provide multiple combined protection
against multiple hazards encountered in certain work areas.

Limitations of use:

The selection and use of a JACKSON SAFETY* welding filter, helmet, hard hat, PAPR system and any
related spare part used to keep the PPE operational must be based on a hazard assessment of the
wearer’s environment. This must be carried out by an appropriately trained individual for the relevant
employer or organization.

and local laws in effect at the time and place of manufacture of the products. THIS WARRANTY IS IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER PRODUCT WARRANTIES, EXPRESS
OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. KCP and its affiliates are not liable for any kind of
special, incidental or consequential damages. KCP’s liability for breach of contract, tort, or other cause of action shall not exceed the product purchase price.
Purchasers and users are deemed to have accepted the above warranty and limitation on damages. To the extent required by applicable law, KCP and its
affiliates do not limit their liability for death/injury resulting from their negligence.

This warranty must be read in conjunction with the terms set out for each respective product in this catalogue, in particular the limitations or exclusions to this
warranty set out in the notes below. The warranty term for ADFs, welding helmets and PAPR blower units starts to run from the date the device is manufactured
as indicated in the traceability code that goes with each unit.

Physical condition of the defective devices: Any modification to the original design, product markings and/or branding; misuse of the product contrary to the
intended application advertised by KCP, or any other explicit recommendation included in the instruction manual for the product or abuse of the product will
void the warranty. Specific defects on welding filters (ADFs), helmets and PAPR systems not covered by the warranty include:
• Any damage created by fall or impact against a solid object and contact with hot surfaces and flames; exposure to excessive heat or force when adjusting
replaceable components
• Any power supply issues derived from corrosion from batteries exposed to excessive humidity or direct exposure to liquids;
• Any defect caused by spatter on the liquid crystal or solar panel;
• Deterioration from normal use on the decoration of the painted surfaces.

Enquiries: If you suspect that the functionality of the product is affected and the instructions provided with each PPE device cannot solve the problem, stop
the use of the PPE device, locate and register the traceability code printed on the product and contact your sales representative or our technical information
service line: infofax@kcc.com. Our Customer Services may request you to ship the product back to us for further examination and provide further instructions
for cleaning and packaging prior to transportation.

KIMBERLY-CLARK PROFESSIONAL* offers limited warranty on welding filters (ADFs), welding helmets and PAPR components (blower unit) from the date of
purchase by the end user as verified by a valid purchase receipt. For any complaints on this category of products during the warranty period, please follow the
process set out below.
Our complaint management system is based on you completing the complaint form through your correspondent Customer Service representative, making
sure that, at the time you submit your complaint, you already have the respective product code, description of the product malfunction and the batch number
at your disposal in order for us to confirm whether the PPE device is within the warranty period. Based on this, the Customer Service representative will ask you
some questions to clarify whether the PPE device has been subjected to any form of misuse that will void the warranty.
Once all input has been received, our Customer Service representative should be able to resolve your enquiry quickly in most of the cases. In other cases,
preparation of the product for shipment to our facilities may be needed. We strongly recommend you submit your product complaints to your Customer
Service representative as it is discovered, as this will have a direct effect on the validity of the warranty term.
