Doctor patient relationship is an emotional association between the doctor and a patient which

arises when the doctor in a professional capacity;interact with the patient.It does not only depend
on the doctor’s knowledge and skills but also the nature of the social relationship that exist
between the doctor and patient.The relationship is built on trust,respect and common
understanding of both sides.

The following are the factors that could influence the relationship between doctor and patient:

Type of illness gives a doctor difficulty to relate with the patient depending on how that patient
is emotionally affected by that illness.In my society,Diabetic patients’ mind is overruled with
seeing themselves as dead walking humans.This will therefore stand as a hindrance to the
relationship

Age of patient brings them to a doctor of their age preference.Forexample most aged patients
prefer to be attended by aged doctors rather than the young doctors.This preference may be a
result of good relationship between the patient and the aged doctor but bad relationship with the
young doctors.

Social classes in terms of high political ranks and economic status.In my society,there is a
business platform in the managerial control of most clinical settings and even personal needs of
the doctors.In that case,these two classes are found to bring about good relationship between a
doctor and the patient.

Ethnicity based on race and ethnic differences between doctors and patients.In Mwanza setting,a
Sukuma doctor and a Sukuma patient would easily develop a good relationship.But on the other
side,doctors may use easily the racial and ethic details of the patient for therapeutic diagnosis by
looking on the background,to anticipate the illness and this would create a good relationship.

Gender differences brings into account preferences of the patients on the gender of the doctor
they want to be attended with.Forexample,a female patient prefers to be attended by a female
doctor than male doctors.In that case,such gender encounter would eventually affect the
relationship between the doctor and his/her patient.

Clinical practice style on how the doctor interacts with the patient.In my society,patients talk
about hospitals and doctors with whom they are attended with.The way a doctor attends a patient
in the clinical setting,would affect their relationship.It would either discourage more a patient on
attending to that doctor again(poor relationship) or it would facilitate good relationship.

Communication skills of the doctor towards the patient.Most patients due to the fact that they
are sick,they would prefer and doctor with good communication skills in consultation.This would
build a good relationship between them.”That doctor has no good language when talking to
patients”,such words would create a bad relationship between them.

Beliefs of both the doctor and patient not only in the religious setting but even non-religious
settings.In the religious setting forexample,physical examination is seen immoral with extended
credit given to the spouse and not any stranger of the opposite sex.This would provide the doctor
with limitations hence affects the doctor patient relationship negatively.

Education of the patient on receiving the information from the doctor and when the doctor is
sharing this information.It is easy for the doctor to share the medical results with an educated
individual with all those medical terminologies,rather than uneducated individual.In my
society,where few are educated,is affecting the doctor patient relationship.

Level of experience of the doctor would be least considered but never ignored because it has
been brought into attention that experienced doctors have better knowledge and patients prefer
them to the unexperienced ones.This therefore affects the relationship between the doctor and
patient of such preference.

Conclusively,A doctor patient relationship is a crucial relationship for the recovery of the
patient and both parts should play their important roles in order to deal with the problem at
hand.Patients should deal with their indifference preferences and doctors should improve in their
clinical setting service delivery so as to build a good relationship with their patients.
