DESIGN OF MACRO SYNTHETIC FIBER REINFORCED CONCRETE

SLABS

The use of fiber rcinforced concrete for flooring has grown a lot lately, due to
their ease of use in the construction pro@ss, as well as ability to absorb
loads, redistributing force and thercfore gaining seMce life.

The macro fiberc maybe added directly to the concrete rnixing system during,
or after, the batohing of the other ingredients and mixed at the time and speed
reommended by the mixer manufacturer (usually four to five minutes). lb
release takes place directly over the area conveniently prepared in the same
way as is normally done, casting the conqete, without the ned for any
reinforcement on the inside of the plate, using only the load transfer bars
between the plates and reinforcements at stress concentration points.

The fiber reinforced concrete is mainly used with performance concrete

applications such as industrial floor€, warehouse floors, commercial floors.
The steel reinforcement reduc'tion or rcplaement is the objective.

The addition of macro fibers to concrete is intended to inhibit the opening of

cracks and their propagation. This can, in principle, lead to the conclusion that
lts purpose is simply to combat the cracking of the ooncrete material, which is
nonetheless true. However, when faced with contrclling cracking, the material
exhibits the ability to deform when absorbing a load, chanacterisilic of this
malleable material.

Thus, its application is possible in some structural elements that present the
possibility of force redistribution, without compromising its state of service.
This possibility appears generally when the structural elements are interfaced
with an elastic medium, i.e.: flooring, surfa@s, slabs, lining of tunnels, lining
of embankments, etc.

The calculation process features particularities of the point of view in terms of

the concept of plasticity that is partially applied to concrete. Therefore we
cannot apply the concept of calculating concrete to fiber reinforced concrete.

The sizing of mncrete floors, surftaces and slabs is performed by calculation

procedures that consider the actions acting on plates resting on an elastic
foundation, taking into account the existing links with adJacent plates.

The works of Losberg and tleyerhof and are precursors to the model
developed, in light of the theory of plastic hinges, for sizing of fiber reinforced
conclete plates on an elastic foundatien, the main objective of this work.
