Amboseli Safari in Kenya A Unique Perspective

While many people visit the Masai Mara for its famous wildlife, an Amboseli safari in Kenya
offers a less traveled but equally rewarding experience. While both parks are renowned for
their flora and fauna, the Amboseli offers a unique perspective on the Maasai culture. As an
added bonus, you will get to observe the forest trees and birding.

Birding
The birding safari on an Amboseli safari in Kenya begins in Nairobi, where your guide will
meet you and provide a briefing about the various wildlife and plants in southern Kenya.
Then, you'll head out along the Mombasa Road Highway to Amboseli National Park, a game
reserve on the border of Kenya and Tanzania. In the afternoon, you'll head out for a game
drive, where you'll likely see a variety of birds.

The best time to visit Amboseli National Park is from November to April, when migratory
birds flock to the area. The park is also ideal for bird watching during the rainy season, when
migratory birds arrive in abundance. Regardless of the season, there's a good chance you'll
see a wide variety of birds, from endemics to rare species.

Maasai culture
For a truly memorable experience, take a Maasai homestead on an Amboseli safari in
Kenya. These culturally rich people live along the Great Rift Valley, which forms south of
Nairobi. The town of Amboseli is set in the heart of the park. You can also enjoy the view of
Kilimanjaro while hiking through the grasslands.

Maasai women live in small groups of huts, each sharing a herd of animals. They perform
traditional songs and display hand-made jewelry. You can buy these items at reasonable
prices. You can also watch local herders tending their livestock. You'll notice a lot of children
helping out in this role. The father of a teenage boy is wearing a ceremonial goatskin cape
and beaded headdress. The boy has been ritually circumcised.
Elephants
One of the best ways to appreciate and learn more about elephants on an Amboseli safari in
Kenya is to visit the sanctuary. The elephants are renowned for being extremely docile, and
they sleep with rangers at all times. Due to the problem of poaching, many of the elephants
have been orphaned. When they are three or four years old, they graduate to a release site
in Tsavo.

Amboseli is located in southern Kenya, east of the Masai Mara. This park is easily
identifiable by the presence of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak. Mount Kilimanjaro,
which looms over the park's southern boundary, prevents animals from migrating to
Tanzania. The park was named after the Maasai people, and its name means 'salty dust',
referring to the large dried lake at its center.

Forest trees
You can witness the lions using branches for rest in the forest on an Amboseli safari in
Kenya. The park is home to more than 100 lions. They make the most exciting sightings
during the early morning and late evening hours, when you can expect to spot these
magnificent felines. The lions are known for proving many myths about these creatures. As a
matter of fact, the lions at Amboseli are more than 100 strong and provide tourists with an
unforgettable experience.

You can also spot the rare lion and the black-and-white serval cats. These animals are
socially and intelligent and live in harmony with their human neighbors. Amboseli is a
popular spot for tourists to watch the big cats of Africa, including the elusive cheetah. The
safari in Kenya can last two days. While the Maasai Mara is a beautiful destination for a
safari, you will also have an opportunity to see the Maasai, Kenya's traditional herders. Their
traditional savanna lifestyle includes nomadism, so you can enjoy the beauty of the Maasai
people. The Maasai are nomads who live in an arid environment, and they wear jewelry and
colorful pearls to distinguish themselves from other animals

Scrub
During the rainy season, Amboseli plains turn a brilliant green and hundreds of bird species
come to feed on the profusion of life. Amboseli's diverse habitats include open plains, acacia
woodland, thorn scrub, swamps, and marshlands. The diversity of the park's ecosystems
makes for exceptional game viewing throughout the year.

The Amboseli national park, situated on the southern tip of Kenya, boasts exceptional views
of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. It is the tallest free-standing mountain in Africa and the
world and is usually covered in clouds, creating a jaw-dropping backdrop for your Amboseli
safari. Here, you can see the giant elephants and other animals in their natural habitats.

Air and road transportation

To travel to the Amboseli national park, you have two options: road transport or air
transportation. Road transportation is the most convenient option if you want to get a closer
view of the park's wildlife and scenic landscape. If you're not able to drive, you can use the
air-transportation service to get to the park. The distance from Nairobi to the Amboseli
national park is about 240 kilometers. Air transport is an excellent choice if you are traveling
with a group.

While air transportation may sound like the better option for traveling to the park, road
transportation in Kenya can be a hassle. Road transportation to Amboseli National Park is a
two-hour drive from Arusha. Similarly, you can take a long-distance bus from Nairobi to
Arusha and Dar es Salaam. Modern Coast buses travel between Nairobi and Kampala and
Arusha. However, if you want to travel to other regions of Kenya, land transportation is a
better option.
