Etiquette is the set of rules or customs
that dictate accepted behavior in
particular social groups or social
situations.

Note:
The simple meaning of etiquette is always to show respect and kindness
to everyone around you

Classroom etiquette involves ensuring
that classrooms have a learning-
centered environment in which faculty
and students are unhindered by
disruptive behavior. Participants in a
classrooms are expected to act in a
mature manner and be respectful to the
learning process, instructor and fellow
students. .

Scenario # 1
You are already five minutes late for class and a class
lecture is already in session:

 You try to sneak into class, but you slam the door behind
you.
 You quietly enter and go to the back of the class and
find a seat.
 You enter class quietly, but walk in front of the speaker to
get to your seat.

You missed class and you want to ask your professor what
was missed…You say?

 “ Did we do anything last week?”


 “ Do you count attendance in my grade?”
 “ I know I missed class, but I have already asked a
classmate and gotten my assignment and notes! Is

 Remember to use your napkin.
 Keep your smartphones off the table and set to
silent or vibrate.
 Wait to check calls and texts until you are finished
with the meal and away from the table.
 Chew with your mouth closed.
 Instead of reaching across the table for something,
ask for it to be passed to you.
 Take part in the dinner conversation.

Netiquette is a set of rules for behaving
properly online. Something about
cyberspace makes it easy for people to
forget that they are interacting with other
real people.

Don’t be too Sensitive
○ Use good taste when composing your
responses in Discussion Forums.
○ Swearing and profanity is part of being
sensitive and should be avoided.
○ Never post in the social platforms
when you’re feeling too emotional.

○ Don’t use all capital letters when
composing your responses as this is
considered “shouting” on the Internet
and is regarded as impolite or
aggressive.
○ It can also be stressful on the eye when
trying to read your message.

○ Avoid “flaming” (publicly attacking or
insulting) them as this can cause hurt
feelings and decrease the chances of
getting all different types of points of
view.
○ Be aware of online bullying & actively
avoid bullying anyone online.

avoid using text messaging shortcuts.
○ Using acronyms is ok with friends but in
public forums if you use an acronym you
should spell out its meaning first, then put
the acronym in parentheses afterward.
