Dear County Executive Page,
Regarding the indictment last week of one of your political-appointees, Tony Weaver, I made a request to
Beth Orwiek, your St. Louis County Counselor. My request was simple: “As of January 1, 2020, has St
Louis County received any federal subpoenas for information, records, etc. regarding any investigations
the federal government may have been or are currently conducting regarding elected, appointed or any
other employees of St. Louis County.” Ms. Orwick’s response to that question was, “To the extent any
responsive subpoenas have been received, they would be confidential and/or closed records.”
Additionally, I asked Ms. Orwick if you had been apprised of any subpoenas received, because the
County Council has not. She has not responded to that request.
May I remind you that on March 15, 2019, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch published an article about St.
Louis County receiving federal subpoenas for investigations they were conducting into St. Louis County
government. You were the County Council Chairman at the time and wasted no time sharing this
information with the media after you asked then-County Counselor Peter Krane to see the subpoena.
The newspaper article goes on to say, “Page said he agreed to talk with reporters about the subpoena
because he wanted to be transparent with the public.” You also told the reporter, “The County Council
has been demanding accountability and transparency for two years,” Page said. “This latest development
indicates the council's concerns were not misplaced ... I hopé the Stenger administration takes this,
‘matter seriously and cooperates fully:
Mr. Page, I have one question for you. What has changed since then? I hope your administration takes
this matter seriously and cooperates fully, not only with federal authorities, but with the County Council
and the public.
Sincerely, DA
