WEEK 9: PROMOTION OF COMMON GOAL

What I learned? Action plan for the Week:

 As part of our core value on
Patriotism, promotion of common
good is an important aspect that we
should not exchange for silver or gold.
Just last election we elected aspiring
candidates who will take over the
different seats of power. For 4 months
we Filipinos have a background-check
on the candidates running for the
different posts in the government, and
we examine how they have performed
and have been performing. This is also
the perfect time to ask who among
them is promoting the common good.
When we say ‘promoting the common
good,’ these are not empty promises or
flowery words that did not come to
fruition during their stint or even
when holding positions in other
offices. Promoting the common good
goes with action so as to actively
encourage the others to do the same.
We can see this in their behaviour and
we can further ask, “Are they worthy
of emulation?”
 Reflect on what characteristics we
need to develop to exercise promotion
of the common good.
 How can we practice a transformed
life that can benefit other people?
 How can we multiply good works so
that it will affect not just ourselves but
also the people in our workplace, our
community, and our country?
Reflection:
As a Filipino people, the promotion of
common good is one of our aspirations
enshrined in the preamble of our
Constitution. Policies, institutions,
systems, programs and services are set in
place primarily for the common good.
However, when motivated to serve the
interests of the economically and
politically powerful few, the welfare of
the general public is at stake. Likewise,
common good is compromised when
people are robbed of the quality service
they deserve through inefficiencies and
ineffectiveness in service delivery.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, give us the grace to work for the common good. We open our hearts
and our spirits to You as we confess the sinful acts that caused harm to ourselves and to
others. We seek Your mercy, grace and for the forgiveness of our sins committed

knowingly and unknowingly. Let it be that the fruits of a changed life are living, seen
and manifested in and through us as we become the light of our beloved nation. Let
every act of promoting the common good be the salt that will preserve and protect our
people and the next generations from wickedness and darkness. Let goodness and
righteousness be our mark all the days of our lives, Amen.
