 NARRATIVE REPORT ON GULAYAN SA PAARALAN PROGRAM 

Pursuant to DepEd Memorandum 095 s. 2018 on “Sustaining the Implementation of

the Gulayan sa Paaralan Program in Public and Secondary Schools Nationwide”, Upper
Tugar Elementary School initiated a “Gulayan sa Paaralan Program” which aimed to: to
promote vegetable production in the school campus; to establish and maintain gardens as
ready food source of vegetables in sustaining supplementary feeding; and to include among
the learners the values of gardening, good health and nutrition, love of labor and caring for
others.
Gulayan sa Paaralan Program is also implemented in order to teach agriculture,
natural resources, and land management through hands on experience and guidance to
prepare pupils for entry level jobs of to further education to prepare them for advanced
agricultural jobs. It is taught in public schools and deals with such subjects as how plants
and animals grow and how soil is farmed and conserved. School gardens are cultivation
areas or school laboratories around or near schools, for production of fruits and vegetables
and may include small scale animal husbandry and fishery, greening flowering and shading.
The promotion of school gardens usually aims towards different objectives, giving pupils
knowledge and skills for better agricultural productivity and sustainable agricultural
practices, giving environmental education a sustainable and practical dimension, change
attitudes towards agriculture and rural life, and increase school attendance school feeding
and create income and improving food diversity to combat micronutrient deficiencies among
school children and improve overall food security.
Here, pupils learned how to plant different kinds of vegetables and how to take care
of them. They are the one who fetched, watered and took care of vegetables planted in the
school- like petchay, alugbati, eggplants, tomatoes, sili, patola, malunggay and other
seedlings provided by the Local Government Unit of Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte. Also,
LGU-Kauswagan provided the school with two (2) water containers for the gulayan.
Also, the vegetables that were being harvested were sold to the community and
others were also used as a supplemental aid in the School-Based Feeding Program (SBFP)

and through this program, our pupils became healthier, attentive and they are performing

leadership of Mrs. Elyn N. Culanculan, the Gulayan sa Paaralan Coordinator, with the
