ABBREVIATIONS
1. SCOPE.
This specification refers to the grid of plastic material film (called ‘Warning tape’), which is laid
underground, and above the gas pipelines, in order to indicate the presence of gas pipeline.
2. MATERIAL.
The warning tape shall be made up of high quality linear low density, lead free, virgin grade
polyethylene without containing any filler material.
Material used for manufacturing should have adequate resistance for underground usage &
should not get cracked or become brittle during use.
Minimum tensile strength = 15 MPa
Minimum % elongation = 300%
3. COLOUR.
The warning tape shall be of a bright Golden yellow colour. This colour must not take any
appreciable alteration in the course of time.
4. DIMENSIONS.
5. PRINTING/MARKING.
a. Printing/marking on the warning tape shall be as shown in the Drawing No. MGL/ENG/PE/054-
Revision 4 in black colour. The printing/marking shall be continuous and uniform throughout
the length of the warning tape as per Clause No. 9 as mentioned below.
b. Printing/marking should not get erased due to underground usage.
c. Manufacturer’s name or trademark and Batch No. shall be marked at intervals of not more than
one meter.
a. An additional layer of transparent sheet made of material as specified at clause no. 2, shall be
laminated on the warning tape to preserve the printed/marked letters, numbers & symbols
against abrasion.
b. Width of the print guard sheet = 180 mm.
c. Thickness of the print guard sheet = 50 microns.
7. TESTS
a. A test specimen (without having laminated transparent print guard sheet for Type B warning
tape), 100 mm to 150 mm in length shall be immersed in a 20% solution of ammonium
sulphide.
b. Temperature to be kept = 15 to 20 0C
c. Duration of immersion = 15 days.
d. The colorfastness shall be evaluated by comparing the test specimen with a sample specimen;
the comparison shall be made by placing the two specimens on a white background, in
daylight, but without exposing them directly to sunlight.
e. The test shall be deemed satisfactory if the colour of the strip remains intact.
One sample per lot offered for inspection or one sample per 5 km lot which is more.
9. PACKAGING
1. Bidder should comply with all the requirements of MGL technical specifications.
3. Bidder shall be ISO 9001: 2008 certified, and should furnish a copy of the same along with the
technical bid.
4. The bidder should have supplied similar type of warning tape to renowned industries or other
reputed organizations.
5. Bidder should submit documentary evidence such as purchase order/work order copies indicating
the detailed scope of work of past supply along with third party inspection release notes,
completion certificates, etc. should be furnished along with technical bid.
6. MGL reserves the right to consider the offer of the bidder based on its past performance in MGL
/internal assessment /reputation in market.
