1. SCOPE.

This specification refers to the grid of plastic material film (called ‘Warning tape’), which is laid
underground, and above the gas pipelines, in order to indicate the presence of gas pipeline.

2. MATERIAL.

Following are the details of the materials to be used:

 The warning tape shall be made up of high quality linear low density, lead free, virgin grade
polyethylene without containing any filler material.
 Material used for manufacturing should have adequate resistance for underground usage &
should not get cracked or become brittle during use.
 Minimum tensile strength = 15 MPa
 Minimum % elongation = 300%

3. COLOUR.

The warning tape shall be of a bright Golden yellow colour. This colour must not take any
appreciable alteration in the course of time.

4. DIMENSIONS.

Type A warning tape

The Type A warning tape shall have the following dimensions:

Width = 200 (±5) mm
Thickness = 300 (±10) micron

Type B warning tape

The Type B warning tape shall have the following dimensions:

Width = 200 (±5) mm
Thickness = 600 (±10) micron

5. PRINTING/MARKING.

a. Printing/marking on the warning tape shall be as shown in the Drawing No. MGL/ENG/PE/054-
Revision 4 in black colour. The printing/marking shall be continuous and uniform throughout
the length of the warning tape as per Clause No. 9 as mentioned below.
b. Printing/marking should not get erased due to underground usage.
c. Manufacturer’s name or trademark and Batch No. shall be marked at intervals of not more than
one meter.

6. PRINT GUARD SHEET(Applicable for Type B warning tape only)

a. An additional layer of transparent sheet made of material as specified at clause no. 2, shall be
laminated on the warning tape to preserve the printed/marked letters, numbers & symbols
against abrasion.
b. Width of the print guard sheet = 180 mm.
c. Thickness of the print guard sheet = 50 microns.

7. TESTS

Following tests shall be carried at the cost of the manufacturer/vendor.

Colour - Fast Test

a. A test specimen (without having laminated transparent print guard sheet for Type B warning
tape), 100 mm to 150 mm in length shall be immersed in a 20% solution of ammonium
sulphide.
b. Temperature to be kept = 15 to 20 0C
c. Duration of immersion = 15 days.

d. The colorfastness shall be evaluated by comparing the test specimen with a sample specimen;
the comparison shall be made by placing the two specimens on a white background, in
daylight, but without exposing them directly to sunlight.

e. The test shall be deemed satisfactory if the colour of the strip remains intact.

8. SAMPLING PLAN FOR COLOUR FAST TEST

One sample per lot offered for inspection or one sample per 5 km lot which is more.

9. PACKAGING

a. The warning tape shall be delivered in rolls of 200 meters.

b. The warning tape length shall be continuous without any joints.

10. INSPECTION / DOCUMENTS.

a. Inspection shall be carried out as per MGL Technical Specifications.

b. MGL representative or Third party inspection agency appointed by MGL shall carry out stage
wise inspection during manufacturing/final inspection.
c. The vendor shall obtain approval from MGL for warning tape sample before commencing
actual production.
d. Vendor shall furnish all the material test certificates, proof of approval/license from specified
authority as per specified standard, if relevant, internal test / inspection reports as per MGL
Tech Spec & specified code for 100% material, at the time of final inspection of each supply lot
of material. The cost for all type material testing (mechanical/chemical) shall be borne by the
vendor.
e. Even after third party inspection, MGL reserves the rights to select a sample of warning tape
randomly from each manufacturing batch & have these independently tested. Should the
results of these tests fall outside the limits specified in MGL technical specification, then
Mahanagar Gas reserves the rights to reject all production supplied from the batch.

Technical Bid Evaluation Criteria (TBEC)

1. Bidder should comply with all the requirements of MGL technical specifications.

2. Bidder should be a manufacturer of warning tape/similar type of item or authorized representative

of manufacturer.

3. Bidder shall be ISO 9001: 2008 certified, and should furnish a copy of the same along with the
technical bid.

4. The bidder should have supplied similar type of warning tape to renowned industries or other
reputed organizations.

5. Bidder should submit documentary evidence such as purchase order/work order copies indicating
the detailed scope of work of past supply along with third party inspection release notes,
completion certificates, etc. should be furnished along with technical bid.

6. MGL reserves the right to consider the offer of the bidder based on its past performance in MGL
/internal assessment /reputation in market.
