Social Justice In the Classroom:Generational poverty

According to an article by Kendra Cherry, Harry Harlow and the Nature of Affection,

Harry Harlow was one of the first psychologists to scientifically investigate the nature of human

love and affection. He developed theories on the distinctions between attachment and

physiological needs, as well as the consequences of not receiving love or emotional bonds for

infants. Harlow discovered that the monkeys preferred the fake mother, who was soft, soothing,

and made of fabric, to the wire mother, who just had food. Harlow's study highlighted the

significance of a parent’s affection in promoting healthy childhood development.

The Stages Of Grief

According to an article by The family enhancement center (TFEC), Kubler-Ross’s 5 Stages

of Grief in 2022, grief is described as a deep sadness, particularly one caused by the loss of

someone. According to Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, humans go through five methodical phases of

grief and these are denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance (Kubler-Ross, 1969).

For instance, a mother answering the door to find police officers, who then deliver news that her

son was shot dead. During the denial stage, she will believe that the police had knocked on the

wrong door. Then comes Anger, the emotional reaction or expression of the inner turmoil of

striving to let go of denial, coming to terms with the new reality, and frequently expressing a

sense of injustice. The next stage is bargaining, where she can be retroactive: “If only I had done

such-and-such.” The next stage is depression where she gives up and moves to despair in the

form of tears, sadness, panic attacks etc. Then acceptance that her son is really gone. These

stages help people to deal with grief and be empathetic with others going through grief.

Identity vs Role confusion

According to an article by Kendra Cherry, Identity vs. Role Confusion in Psychosocial

Development, this period occurs between the ages of 12 and 18 throughout adolescence.

Adolescents explore their freedom and build a sense of self at this time. People experience a

developmental conflict at each stage of life that must be overcome in order to successfully

acquire the principal virtue of that stage. As a prospective parent, this information would be

valuable in recognising an adolescent's transition and assisting them in discovering methods to

carve out and create their ego and self.
