ID#:___________________________________ 2. Job shop layout
3. Product layout
PLEASE CIRCLE THE RIGH CHOICE: 4. Process layout

Question 1: Ferrous materials include which of the following: Question 8: Products purchased by companies to produce products
or provide services are called which one of the following.
1. Aluminum
2. Gold 1. Assembled products
3. Copper 2. Consumer goods
4. Steel 3. Final product
4. Capital goods
Question 2: The term plant capacity refers to the maximum rate of
production that a factory can achieve under assumed labor levels, Numerical In a long-running high-production operation, the starting
hours of operation per week, and other operating conditions. work part cost = $0.95 each, and cycle time = 1.25 min. Equipment
cost rate = $28.00/hr, and labor cost rate = $21.00/hr. Both rates
1. True include overhead costs. Tooling cost = $0.05/pc. Availability of the
2. False production machine = 96%, and the scrap rate = 7%. Determine (a)
production rate and (b) finished part cost.
Question 3: Which one of the following engineering materials is
defined as a compound containing metallic and nonmetallic (a) Production rate
elements: 1. 42.85
2. 50.95

1. Forging
2. Milling
CL=RH/60 (1+ RLOH)
3. Drilling
4. Turning Ceq = IC/60NH(1+ROH)

Question 6: Which of the following operations is classified as Qo = Q/1-q

material removal process:
Tc = To+Th+Tt
1. Grinding
2. Forging Tb=Tsu+QTc
3. Heat treatment
4. Sintering Rp= 60 / Tp

Rc = 60/Tc

Sol: 411.211.341.4 Tp = Tsu/Q + Tc

1.1 In a long-running high-production operation, the starting
work part cost = $0.95 each, and cycle time = 1.25 min.
Equipment cost rate = $28.00/hr, and labor cost rate =
$21.00/hr. Both rates include overhead costs. Tooling
cost = $0.05/pc. Availability of the production machine =
96%, and the scrap rate = 7%. Determine (a)
production rate and (b) finished part cost.
Solution: (a) Production rate, including effect of
availability (60/1.25)(0.96) = 46.08 pc/hr
However, because of the 7% scrap rate, the production
rate of acceptable parts is
Rp = 46.08(1-0.07) = 42.85 pc/hr
(b) Factoring in availability and scrap rate, part cost is
Cpc = 0.95/0.93 + ((21 + 28)/60)(1.25/(0.93 x 0.96)) +
0.05 = $2.215/pc
