J HAFERMAN

Officers were dispatched to the area south of S. Taft Hill Rd. and Trilby Rd. (100-200 yards south of
intersection) on report of a motor vehicle accident (MVA). An informant reported to dispatch that a
vehicle appeared to have left the roadway and was down a deep embankment. The informant observed
a male exit the driver seat quickly and state he had a ride coming for him. Officer Nolan arrived on scene
and began speaking with the male driver, Derrick Groves. Groves admitted to Officer Nolan he was
driving the vehicle that left the roadway and was down the embankment. Groves was cleared medically
by Emergency Medical Technicians on scene and Groves never made any complaints of injuries.

l arrived on scene and began speaking to Groves. Groves stated he was coming from his friends house in
the area of Overland Trail and Drake Rd., but pointed to the south. The crossroads he was speaking of
were not to the south where he was pointing. Groves stated he was heading to his home in Loveland
when his vehicle left the roadway. Groves vehicle was facing north at the bottom of the embankment,
and through the course of the information it was established he was driving in the area below the

embankment from south to north. Groves stated he looked at his phone prior to leaving the roadway.

l observed Groves had blood shot, glassy eyes, and his pupils appeared to be different sizes. Groves
denied consuming any drugs or alcohol prior to driving that night, but did admit to using marijuana 5-6
days prior.

Groves consented to the eye portion of roadside maneuvers and did not complete them as a sober
person. Groves displayed Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus in both eyes and Lack of Convergence in both eyes.

Groves was arrested and consented to a blood draw.

Officers completed a search of the vehicle and it yielded several CO2 cartridges, balloons, and receipts
for THC products.

Groves was on probation for a driving under the influence offense at the time of the MVA.
