Karnataka has 5 national parks and 18
wildlife sanctuaries
1. Bandipur National Park

The Bandipur National Park of Karnataka is a beautiful forest reserve of southern India.
The Bandipur National Park was established with the aim of conserving the nature and its
resource.

In 1930, the present Bandipur National Park was the Maharaja Voodiyar's hunting land
which was converted into Venugopal Wildlife Park. Later in the year 1941, the park was
expanded to the nearby Nagarhole National Park and named as the Bandipur National
Park.

Now the Bandipur National Park of Karnataka is a part of the vast Nilgiri Biosphere
Reserve which is considered as the extensive tracts of protected forest in India. In the
year 1973, the Bandipur National Park in Karnataka was declared as the tiger reserve of
India. Now it is the best managed tiger reserve of India.
2. Nagarhole National Park.:-  Nagarhole National Park, also known as Rajiv Gandhi
National Park, is a wildlife reserve in the South Indian state of Karnataka. Part of the
Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, the park is backed by the Brahamagiri Mountains and filled
with sandalwood and teak trees. The Kabini River winds through jungle landscapes,
home to tigers, Asian elephants and a variety of birds. Nearby, the Irupu Falls cascade
down tree-lined rocks.

3. Bannerghatta National Park :- Bannerghatta National Park is a national park in India,


located near Bangalore, Karnataka. It was founded in 1970 and declared as a national
park in 1974. In 2002, a small portion of the park became a zoological garden, the
Bannerghatta Biological Park.
 
4. Anshi National Park :- Anshi National Park The Anshi National Park is an evergreen
tropical rainforest situated in the North Kannada district in Karnataka. The park 
covering an area of 340 sq km is considered as India's most endangered wildlife park.
Anshi lies on the Karwar- Londa highway and is part of the Dandeli wildlife sanctuary.
Anshi  got the designation as National Park in1987. Dandeli is a small town located on the
banks of the Kali river in Karnataka. The forests around this town was established as
Dandeli wildlife sanctuary in 1975 with an area of around 500 sq kms. The Anshi National
Park and the adjoining Dandeli wildlife sanctuary together make up the Dandeli Wildlife
Division of the Karnataka Forest Department. 

5. Bhadra National Park :- Bhadra wildlife sanctuary is located in Karnataka at a distance of


38 km from Chikmagalur town. It boasts of a substantially large number of tiger
populations and was declared in 1998 as the 25th Project Tiger of India. The sanctuary
has an elevation point of 750 m to 1875 m above the sea level. The lofty hill range and
green vegetation surrounding it from all sides make it look absolutely stunning. The lush
green vegetation mainly consists of dry deciduous and moist forests.
