Preface
I have crocheted some small blankets with head and arms, but I was a little tired of the small
blankets and thought it must be possible to shape it as a body. In early summer of 2019 I started
crocheting such a doll. The first doll I was not happy with, but my colleague Lene persuaded me to
finish the doll. That`s why the first doll is called Lene (cuddly doll Lene is in Danish Nusse Dukke
Lene) and it`s also the name of the facebook group I created where we crochet the dolls
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1123218204546817/

The little mermaid is named Elina and is named after a colleague`s granddaughter.

If you have any problems with this pattern you are always welcome to contact me on FB.
It is always important to read the entire pattern.

Materials

You can use the yarn you like, I used Cotton 100% , 50 gr = 170 meter and hook C (2,5mm)
Scissors, needle
Stuffing for head, hands and feet
I always crochet or sew the eyes because I usually make dolls for small children, but you can also
use safety eyes.
For this doll I have used this yarn:
50 gr for the tail, fin, top and the little star

25 gr for the head, arms and hands

25 gr for the hair
A little black for the eyes and
A little red for the mouth

I was lucky to find this little film which I think can be a great help it shows how to crochet the
crocodile stitch – watch it before starting on the tail

Hair
I call it a turban wig, because I have once made a turban in this way
With brown
All rounds start with ch 2 which count as the first hdc
ALL ROUNDS ARE CROCHETED IN BLO
Rnd 1 MR, 12 hdc, join with a sl st in the first hdc (12)
Rnd 2 2 hdc in each stitch, join with a sl st in the first hdc (24)
Rnd 3 * 1 hdc, 2 hdc in next stitch* x 12, join with a sl st in the first hdc (36)
Rnd 4 * 2 hdc, 2 hdc in next stitch* x 12, join with a sl st in the first hdc (48)
Rnd 5 * 3 hdc, 2 hdc in next stitch* x 12, join with a sl st in the first hdc (60)
Rnd 6-9 60 hdc, join with a sl st in the first hdc

Try it on the head before you cut the yarn. If it is too big or too small you will need to remove or
add stitches.
I pull it a little backwards - sew a couple of stitches around the bottom 3 rounds, to make a
parting.

Before sewing the wig on the head I embroider the face.

11

The eyes are sewn over 1 stitch with 8 stitches between them – On the fifth round of 60 stitches,
after the increases.
I use the little hole at the top of the head to to go in and out with the yarn.
I sew the eyes as explained and make a couple of eyelashes out to the sides.
The nose is sewn with skin colour over 2 stitches, 1 round below the eyes.
The mouth is sewn over 4 stitches.

When the face is finished and I have made sure I tightly tied the ends, I close the hole by
crocheting 2 stitches together x 6 so there are 6 stitches left. Then close the hole.
For blush on the cheeks – I use a coloured pencil.

Put the wig in place again and sew it securely – I camouflage the stitches with the unused loops.

When you have sewn the wig on, crochet the hair for it
Crochet 8-10 strands like this:
Ch 51, 2 sc in second stitch from the hook, 2 sc in the next 19 stitches, 1 sc in the last 30 stitches
1 strand like this:
Ch 40, 2 sc in second stitch from the hook, 2 sc in each of the last 38 stitches
1 strand like this:
Ch 20, 2 sc in second stitch from the hook, 2 sc in each of the last 18 stitches
1 strand like this:
Ch 14, 2 sc in second stitch from the hook, 2 sc in each of the last 12 stitches

Now we sew the hair on.

The long strands are sewn on the front of round 3 of the turban wig.

14

The three small strands, are sewn in and are positioned as shown on the photo above – it should
not be centred, the yarn is wrapped around three times and sewn in. It is then tied around the
long strands where they meet. Sew in the ends.

Hair decorations:
Little star
Rnd 1 MR, 6 sc, join with a sl st in the first sc
Rnd 2 * ch 3, 1 sc in second ch, 1 sc in third ch, 1 sc in next stitch* x 6
I have sewn the star on the hair parting.

If you like to have a hair tie you can make it like this
Hair tie
Ch 40
Row 1 2 sc in second stitch from the hook, 2 sc in each of the last 38 stitches,
sew in the ends and tie around the long hair.

Pattern designed by Tina Christensen. This pattern is my property and for personal use only.

When we work with squares it`s best to sew the head to the square before folding it to make body
You can sew the finish head to the square or you can alternatively crochet 11 rounds and finish it
later
Look like this

Use round 1 at the square to sew the head to the square

Now we shall fold the square and finish the body – crochet in the BLO of the top and in both loop
from the body – we start in the tr in the corner
