ABSTRACT
In the run up to the century year anniversary of Malabar rebellion a pivotal chapter of history face off an
eminent ideological debate following the announcement of two Malayalam movies from distinct political or
religious spheres. Hindu fanatics who perceive this as Hindu genocide, have claimed that it was Marxist
historians who firstly described this rebellion as a peasant uprising in tune with their Class War Theory and to
win over the large organized vote-bank for the left parties. However, historical works of Marxist writers have
significantly scrutinized the motives and factors of Malabar rebellion and evaluated it as peasant revolt even
though they adopted religious teachings and values. Books such as ‘Contemporary History of India’ by Soviet
historians and Communism in Kerala of EMS have thoroughly dismantled their baseless allegation.
Furthermore, to analyse class struggle and relationship of economic development with political issues and social
conditions are unique features of Marxist world view. Therefore it can simply recognize purpose of certain
issues by analysing its social condition. The present paper will criticize the Marxist reading of Malabar rebellion
and rebut arguments of Hindu Fanatics based on the bias of Marxist aspects.
