CASE STUDY 1
Sufi at 8 months of age followed her mother crawling behind her. This was a moment of great
happiness in the family. All the family members clapped for her and hugged her. It was because her
body was mature enough for this activity. This is Maturation. It means that the potential traits (for
different activities like sitting, crawling, walking etc.) are present at birth in the individual and are
controlled by heredity. This unfolds itself at the appropriate time.
Acquiring new skills due to environmental stimulation and training is known as Learning.
Therefore, the development comes from effort, practice, and training. Thus, maturation and
learning work together to promote the development of an individual. Both of these are important
and are related to each other.

13. Bicycle riding will be learnt by a child as a result of __________. 1

(a) Effort, practice and training.
(b) Stamina in muscles and training
(c) Strength and stamina in muscles

HOME SCIENCE CLASS IX ACADEMIC PLAN 2022-23 9

(d) Stamina, effort, practice and training
14. Mark true or false 1
(i) Maturation is influenced by heredity and can be termed as nature.
(ii) Nurture is also referred to as environment but is different from learning.

CASE STUDY 2
Family relations depend on the way every member behaves and interacts with each other. The well-
being of each member of the family depends on the nature of these relationships. In a traditional
Indian joint family where a large number of family members share common house and other things.

nuclear families as a result of migration, globalization, due to financial pressures, better education
and employment opportunities.

(ii) No interference from the grandparents
(iii) Opportunity to interact with each other is more
(iv) No sharing with cousins
18. Write any two points on role of parents in development of children. 1
19. Globalisation leads to shift of joint families to nuclear families but it can be beneficial too.
What do you think is the advantage of globalisation? 1

CASE STUDY 3
Municipal Corporation of Gurugram is stressing on the segregation of waste these days. Depending
on the type of waste to garbage bins – green and blue should be used. Green bins are used for
biodegradable waste whereas blue bins for non-biodegradable waste. Ideally there should be a third
been for toxic wastes such as medicines, batteries, dried paint, etc. It is the duty of all the citizens
to segregate the waste properly for its safe disposal. The proper disposal of waste can be done
through various methods like composting, vermi composting, generation of biogas, incineration
and landfills. Composting can be done at household level or at a small scale in order to convert the
biodegradable waste into manure. On the other hand landfills involves burying of garbage into
large landfill areas. Incineration is a waste treatment process that involves burning of the waste
materials.
