Assignment Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this assignment, students will be able to:

 Understand how to write an effective item for a scale

 Generate items for test construction

Tasks:

Job stress means harmful physical and emotional reaction of the employees when the job
requirements are contradictory with employees capabilities, resources, and needs. Different factors
that might cause job stress are management policies, work overload, less recognition or appreciation
and etc.

Your task is to write 07 items on the construct of “Job Stress”.

1. Your first step is to define the construct of “Job Stress”. For this purpose; you can take

any of the definitions given by any theorist and take it as a decisive model for the item

construction. (2)

2. Now you have to pick basic elements or indicators of “Job stress” from your selected definition
and mention them in the form of a list. (4)

3. After that you have to develop seven items for the Job stress which must be related to the

particular construct by using 5 points scale. (2 mark for each item)

Important Instructions for Item Writing:

Below mentioned guidelines must be followed while writing the items:

  Items should necessarily be related to the specific construct.

  Items must not be double barreled.

  Items can be searched from literature like articles or scales but you must re-write them in your

own words.
 Items must be easy to understand and it should be clearly stated.

 Items should not be too long. 

 Items should not contain double negatives.

 No format other than 5 points scale should be used.
