Process Industry Practices

Document Responsibility: Standards Coordinator

General Information
The Process Industry Practices (PIP) is a coalition of process industry owners together with engineering and
construction contractors who serve the industry. Its mission is to increase the value of engineering-procurement-
construction activities for the process industry in the global marketplace, and enhance compliance with safety,
health and environmental objectives. This is accomplished through ensuring the availability of recommended
practices for the detailed design, procurement, and construction of process facilities, including the perspective of
maintenance and operations.

PIP publishes documents called "Practices." These Practices reflect a harmonization of members' engineering
standards in a number of common engineering disciplines. Specific practices address design, selection and
specification, and installation information, and have been developed in the following disciplines:
• Civil/Structural/Architectural (C/S/A)
• Coatings and Insulation (C&I)
• Electrical
• Environmental
• Machinery
• Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID)
• Piping
• Process Control (PC)
• Vessels

Saudi Aramco has been a member of PIP since 1994. As an active member, it has free use of all Practices that
have been developed. They are included as a separate collection in DeskTop Standards as a convenience for all
present and potential users. However, their inclusion does not imply adoption by Saudi Aramco. To the contrary,
their use in the company's legally binding documents (i.e., contracts, purchase orders, etc.) is limited to the extent
that they are referenced in Saudi Aramco Engineering Standards (SAES) and Material Systems Specifications
(SAMSS). If there are any questions about their use, contact the Saudi Aramco Standards Coordinator.
