Prerequisites for successful milking:


D a milking installation which has been designed and set up correctly
The milking vacuum and automatic cluster removal must be set correctly to
suit the animals. Regular checks and adjustments to meet any herd changes
will also ensure successful milking.
D a cluster which suits the animal
D a correctly positioned cluster with hose guide and cluster removal facility
Good cluster positioning prevents negative torsional and leverage forces
from being exerted on the udder. Poor adhesion, stripping difficulties and
udder problems can be prevented in this way!
Tube guide arms or automatic stripping machines facilitate the positioning
of the cluster, follow the movements of the animals and ensure successful
milking. Optimum positioning of the cluster can be achieved with a small
amount of effort with these systems. They make application easier and
reduce the physical effort required from the operator!
It is generally recommended to use a tube guide arm during milking!
As far as the arrangement of tubes are concerned, these are to be kept as
short as possible avoiding unnecessary sagging.
D scheduled maintenance and cleaning of the milking installation
Regular thorough cleaning and disinfection of the milking installation will
help to improve the health of the animals, the quality of the milk and therefore
milking results.
D when replacing parts, only use original spare parts
D recommended settings are only valid in conjunction with original
WestfaliaSurge products. They may need to be revised after a period of

2.1 Owner’s obligation of care

The Global 90i milking parlour frame has been designed and constructed while
taking account of a potential risk analysis and after careful selection of the
harmonised standards and other technical specifications to be complied with.
It is therefore in line with the latest technical developments and guarantees a
maximum level of safety.
This safety can only be achieved in practice on the farm however when all of the
necessary measures have been taken. It is part of the farmer’s obligation of care
to plan these measures and check that they are carried out.

In particular, the owner must ensure that


D the legal requirements are observed.
D the instructions in the section entitled ”Basic safety instructions” are
observed.
D safety signs, plates and stickers on the product which are damaged or
illegible are to be replaced immediately!
D all safety and warning instructions applied are not removed and remain
legible.
D escape routes are marked by means of signs in accordance with national
regulations!
D the personal protective equipment required for personnel carrying out
operation, maintenance and repairs is made available and used.
D a full set of legible instructions is always kept by the milking parlour frame.
It must be ensured that anyone who has to carry out any work on the milking
parlour frame can look at the instructions at any time.

3.1 Correct applications

WestfaliaSurge are designed exclusively for use in agricultural (mostly dairy)


farms.
The Global 90i milking parlour frame is only intended to hold animals during
milking times.
Treatment, insemination, pregnancy tests or other types of care may only be
carried out in a designated area within the barn installation.
any applications which are not listed here are not part of the intended purpose
and are therefore considered as improper use!
In particular, we would like to point out that it is forbidden to milk animals other
than cows using this frame.
The manufacturer/supplier is not liable for any resulting damage. The user
alone bears the risk.
Correct use also includes reading the instructions and observing the inspection
and maintenance conditions.
Original WestfaliaSurge parts and accessories are specially designed for
WestfaliaSurge components.
We would specifically like to point out that parts or accessories not supplied by
ourselves and setting instructions not provided by WestfaliaSurge are not
checked or released by us either.
The installation or use of such products can have a negative effect on the
specified characteristics of WestfaliaSurge products and can put people and
animals at risk.
The manufacturer cannot be held liable for injuries caused to people or animals

The Global 90i milking parlour frame is designed for single-sided and
double-sided milking parlours.
The animals enter the milking parlour through the entry gate (X). They are held
in the milking position by the exit gate (A), the deflector (L), the dung plate (F)
and the barrier (H).
The position of the animals is optimised for the operator by the individual
indexing of the gate elements in the exit gate (A).
The exit gate (A) releases all the animals at the same time at the end of milking.
The entry gate and exit gate are operated by means of pneumatic cylinders (D).
Operation is carried out using main control units which are installed near to the
entry.
If the compressed air supply should fail during milking, the animals can be let
out manually one at a time.
You can also let a single animal out of the milking parlour if you need to.

Transport may only be performed by specially qualified personnel in


accordance with the safety instructions.

4.2 Safety instructions for transport

To avoid damage to property and/or life-threatening injury to people during


transport, the following points must always be observed:
D Only the specified load suspension and stopping devices at the stipulated
holding points may be used for transport.

Special transport hazards:

D Projecting sharp edges may cause cuts.


D Suspended loads can fall and then there will be a risk of death - do not stand
underneath suspended loads!
D Parts which are stacked too high can collapse.
D If load suspension devices other than those indicated here are used, this
may lead to serious damage to property and/or life-threatening injury to
people.
D There is a fire hazard due to the highly inflammable packing material - naked
flames and smoking prohibited!

4.3 Checking what has been delivered

Check the goods supplied against the packing list enclosed for completeness
and damage.

4.4 Storage conditions

When storing the goods supplied, the location must provide protection against:

5.2 Safety instructions for installation

To prevent damage to property and/or life-threatening injury to people during


installation, the following points must always be observed:
D Before installation, look for any damage caused during transport. Do not use
damaged components!
D In the area where the animals stand, all exposed conductive parts of
electrical equipment (components, housing, etc.) and any external
conductive parts which animals could come into contact with must be
connected to each other and to the PE conductor of the installation by
means of additional equipotential bonding.

Special hazards during installation:


D Lines which are not laid properly (eg bending radius too small) can cause
scorching and electrical fires.
If the bending radius is too small, it should be removed.
D There is a fire hazard associated with welding work.
D Components which have been incorrectly set down or which have not been
fastened properly may fall off or twist.
D Parts loosely placed on top of each other can slip and fall off.
D Components with sharp edges which are still open and accessible represent
a source of injury.
D Before working on pneumatic components, make sure they are not under
pressure!
D Faulty pressure pipes and connections can lead to serious physical injury.

D Lay the templates on the foundations as

D Pull the cord tight in order to ensure that all the
templates are in a line.

D The modular dimension of 720 mm between


two templates must be kept to.

Attention!
The cross-members should only be installed if there are at least 2
people and an approved lifting device (at least 250 kg load-bearing
capacity).

Risk of falling!
There is a risk of falling when installing the cross-members, e.g. from
a ladder.
Only use equipment which ensures a secure standing position and
adequate safety.

Suspended loads!
During the installation work, falling cross-members can cause serious
injury.
Block off the danger area during the installation work.

Preparing the pit cross-members

D Cut cable openings measuring 50 x 80 mm in


the pit cross-members 7123-5490-370:
- Cut out cable openings only on one side of
the pit cross-member.
- Cut out one cable opening in each post
and each suspended post.
- The position of the cable openings will
depend on the width of the operator pit and
the number of sides to the milking parlour.
- Deburr cable openings thoroughly and
use cold zinc paint to protect against
corrosion.

D Fix the welded holders 4053-5216-501 to the
wall using the parts from the set of fasteners
7123-9901-140 so that the pit cross-member
is horizontal.
D Shorten the pit cross-member to the required
length.
D Protect the cut edge against corrosion by
applying cold zinc paint.
D Fix the pit cross-member to the holder
4053-5216-501 using the fixings (7320, 7330,
7340) from the set of fasteners

Align the holders so that they are parallel


D Pull a cord tight between all the holders (140):
- Align all the holders at the same time and
set them at the same height.
- Then drill a 14 mm hole through the holder
(140) and pit cross-member.
D Screw them together using screws, washers
and nuts (7350, 7360, 7370) from the set 730.

D The A-posts must be square to the exit:
- Maximum deviation 0.1°.

D The A-posts must be at an angle of 90° to the


standing surface in the direction of movement
of the animals:
- Take the gradient of the standing surface
into consideration.

D Drill through the pit cross-members so that
they can be fixed using the screws (7320).
D Screw the holders, cross-members, pit
cross-members and A-posts together using

E Installing the uprights


D Fix the assembly aid to the A-post using the
links (130).
D Also use parts 7210, 7230 and 7240 from the

assembly aid.
D The uprights should stand in the templates.
Note:
There are no uprights next to the first and last
A-posts on one side of the milking parlour as
deflectors are only located between the animals.

uprights should be

D always at 90° to the surface in the direction of
entry of the animals.
D The uprights should stand in the templates.

D Weld the uprights (100) to the templates.


D Remove the assembly aid and set it up
between the next A-posts.
D Repeat the assembly procedure until all the
uprights have been installed.
D Once all the uprights have been welded,
strengtheners are to be welded between the
uprights for the concrete reinforcement.

D Lay the dung plates 7123-5453-... on the


fixing brackets (260) according to the number
of milking places.
D Fix using parts 7910 and 7920 from the set of
fasteners 7123-9901-090.

D Align the dung plates


- The underside of the dung plates should
be 660 mm above the ground.
A - The outside edge of the drainage channel
should be totally flush with the edge of the
concrete (line A-A).

D Remove the protective film from the dung


plates.

Note:
D Always remove protective film gently, ie
parallel with the surface underneath, and
slowly.
D Remove any film left on the plate using
”WL-75” cleaning agent (7311-0080-199):
- Spray on.
- Leave to work for 5 minutes.
- Wipe off with a soft cloth.

D Weld all the dung plates together with a


continuous weld seam.

5.19.3 To fit

D On the surface where the animals stand, push


the gate elements (410 or 420), limit stops
(430), threaded tube (440) and bearing (390)
onto the tube (3xx) in the order shown below.
Note:
Push on the retaining ring (580) at the lowest point
of the shaft before the bearing!

D Once all the parts have been pushed on,


check again to make sure that they are in the
correct order.

D Align the limit stop next to the gate element.

D Lift the whole unit and place on the welded
holder (140).
Note:
Stabilise large units at the ends using retaining
straps.

D Centre the shaft between the ends using a


sledge hammer.

D Fix the assembly aid (570) to the welded


holder (520) and lever (560):
D Move the welded holder (520) so that the
assembly aid is not tilted and can move freely.
D Screw down the holder (520).

5.22 Welding the exit gate

D Weld the welded holder (550) onto the shaft:


- Weld on the lever at right angles to the
axis of the shaft.
90° - Weld all the way round on each side.
- Also weld in the 3 slots.

Repeat this procedure for each gate element.


D Fix the limit stop:
- Move the bracket of the gate element into
the ”closed” position.
- Fix it in this position using clamping tongs.
- Clamp a 1400 mm long rod (tube or
suchlike) between the edge of the dung
plate and the gate element.
- Then fix the limit stop to the shaft
temporarily by means of 3 spot welds.
- Remove the rod and check to make sure
that the dimension of 1400 mm has been
met.
D Weld the limit stop:
- Once all the limit stops have been fixed,
check to make sure that all the gate
elements are in the same position.
- Then weld all round the limit stops on the
shaft.

D Only weld tube 580 (7123-2139-000) in the


holes on the shaft.

Note!
After welding, all weld seams and spot welds are to be cleaned
carefully and protected against corrosion by applying cold zinc paint.

Attention!
The seals on the compressed air cylinder may be destroyed by the
effects of severe heat.
Any welding work required must have been completed before it is
installed!

Attention!
Once the blanking plug on the cylinder has been removed, make sure
that no foreign bodies get into the cylinder.

D Assemble the pneumatic cylinder:


- Coat the thread of the restrictor and the
fast drain with sealing material.
- Screw the restrictor into the cylinder.
- Screw the fast drain into the cylinder and
just tighten by hand. Do not use tongs!
- Fit the eyebolt.

Note:
The lock nut of the eyebolt must not be further
than a maximum of 27 mm from the underside of
the ”eye”.
The distance should be as small as possible for
commissioning.

D Install the pneumatic cylinder:


- Lift all the brackets.
- Remove the assembly aid (570) and install
the pneumatic cylinder in its place.
- Close all the brackets again.

Note:
The pneumatic cylinder for the exit gate is heavy
and fragile.
Therefore take care when handling it during
assembly!

5.28 Installation of the pneumatic controller


5.28.1 Installing the control units
D Either weld the main control unit in the entry area to the dung plate or fix it
to the railings in the waiting area.
D Fit the additional control unit in the desired location in the milking parlour
using the same method.

Description
Each side of the milking parlour is controlled by means of a main control unit with
3 knobs.
The valve for the entry gate and the valve for the exit gate are located in the
housing of the main control unit.

Legend:
1 Push in knob = Raise exit gate
2 Push in knob = Lower exit gate
3 Push in knob = Close entry gate
Pull out knob = Open entry gate
If there are 12 or more milking places on each side of the milking parlour, the
milking parlour will be supplied with an additional control unit. The additional
control unit is also available as an option for smaller milking parlours.

Auto-Entry gate (option)


This entry gate opens automatically.
If you press in the red knob, the exit gate will be lowered. The entry gate can
be operated independently from the exit gate using the black knob.
Multiline (option)
In the case of installations with Multiline milking parlour panelling, the valves and
knobs are integrated in the milking parlour panelling.
For further information on the subject, see the instructions for the
Multiline SBS milking parlour panelling.

5.28.2 Pneumatic connection

Attention!
Clean the compressed air lines carefully before installation in order
to remove all foreign bodies.

Cut the hoses and compressed air lines to size in accordance with the plans
below and pull them through the posts and cross-members.

5.28.3 Connection to the compressed air system

Attention!
Before connecting the components to the compressed air line, remove
all foreign bodies and dirt from the compressed air line!

When making the connection note the following:


- Never use PVC or galvalized piping for the compressed air line!
- Inside diameter of copper pipe (12) : at least 19 mm
- Connect ”compressed air” supply line (12) directly to each main control
unit (13, 14).

The compressed air system used must be designed by specialist
personnel for the existing milking installation to WestfaliaSurge
requirements.

The output calculation should be based on the following values:


- Air consumption per pneumatic cylinder (exit gate): 170 l/min
- Air pressure: 7 bar
- Temperature: 2 degrees Celsius.

6.1 Special personnel qualification required for initial commissioning
Initial commissioning may only be performed by specially qualified personnel in
accordance with the safety instructions.
All settings that have to be made (e.g. on control units) should always be carried
out by personnel with corresponding training/instruction from WestfaliaSurge.

6.2 Safety instructions for initial commissioning


To prevent damage to property and/or life-threatening injury to people when
commissioning for the first time, the following points must always be observed:
D Before starting for the first time check that all tools and other parts have been
removed from the danger area.
D Activate all safety devices and emergency stop switches before
commissioning.
D check the direction of rotation of the motor before commissioning.
D Are all of the operating media suitable, present and connected?

Special risks involved in initial commissioning:


D Defective connections can cause unexpected movements of the entry gate
and the exit gate.
D Check all pressure ranges for leaks.

7.1 Special personnel qualification required for operation

Operation may only be performed by specially qualified personnel in


accordance with the safety instructions.
The operator may only carry out work on the machine if he has been trained,
instructed and authorized to do so by the owner.

7.2 Safety instructions for operation

In order to prevent damage to property and/or life-threatening injury to people


when operating the equipment, the following points must always be observed:
D The milking parlour frame may only be used for the application agreed.
D Before switching on, find out what to do in an emergency.

Before operating, make sure you are adequately familiar with the following:

Carry out the following checks before every start:

D Check and make sure that all operating media is suitable, present and
connected.

to be rectified immediately or reported to the supervisory staff - the milking
parlour frame may only be operated if it is perfect condition.

workstation.
D During operation, operating personnel may only stand at the specified
workplaces.

D During operation, it is strictly forbidden to remain within the hazard area!
D Operating personnel should make sure that no unauthorized personnel are
in the working area.
D After switching off the operating personnel must wait until all moving parts
have come to a halt and the operating lights have gone out!
Only then can they leave the milking parlour frame.
D The following checks are to be carried out at least once a day:
- Visual checks for any damage that can be seen on the outside
- check all pneumatic hoses for leaks and check that they are connected
correctly
