Statement of Purpose

The hospitality committee in any organisation is responsible for hosting guests from different
institutions, co-ordinating with other event heads in providing refreshments and promoting
fellowship throughout the organisation. Though I haven’t been directly involved in the
hospitality committee I have been exposed to its workings while volunteering under different
events organised by my school and college. Organising and co-ordinating fests and events in
college have greatly improved by interpersonal and negotiation skills. Hospitality committee
in IIM Rohtak primarily acts as a liaison between students and administration for hostel and
mess facilities. Many students far from Rohtak have taken admission in the institution. The
responsibility lies on the hospitality committee in making the students feel at home and
welcomed. And I strongly believe that I have the necessary people skills to make that happen.
In addition to this, I have been a foodie all through my life. Trying different cuisines delights
me. Being a Tamilian, I have been exposed to a lot South Indian cuisine through friends from
college. If I get an opportunity to be in this committee, it would provide a platform for me to
familiarise with North Indian dishes which will assist greatly in designing or catering foods
according to the preference of my peers. Hence, these are the traits that would make me a
potential candidate for the Hospitality Committee.

Ideas for Events/ Competitions for the year ahead

Tour of the campus

Since the classes have been online for the incoming batch many have not visited the campus.
The hospitality committee can organise a virtual tour of the campus for students residing in
different parts of the country.

Movie Party

In order to break the monotonous schedule of back to back classes, the hospitality committee
can host a movie party during any of the weekends.

Food Fest

Since all of our classes are online, there isn’t any need to design mess menu. Instead the
hospitality committee can organise food fests where all the students can have one meal
(breakfast/lunch/dinner) together. Since students are from different states, they can talk about
the food that is popular in their region and the history behind it. This will expose students to
different cuisines and cultures

These are some of the ideas I had in mind for the coming academic year.
